First Draft: 🍁 It’s a Huge Scandal That Trump Is Plunging Us Into ‘War’ With Canada

The president has opened up another front in his economic hellscape and it should be an all-consuming scandal that the GOP lets him do it. Plus, Hakeem Jeffries’s secret meeting with Jared Kushner.

On this day in 2023, Donald Trump had his mugshot taken after surrendering in Fulton County, Georgia, on charges arising from his attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Trump monetized the mugshot. The case eventually collapsed.

We made it to Monday! It’s Swin again. If you’re living in the U.S., you woke up this morning to our nation very much at war. No, I’m not talking about that war. Or that one. Or that other one. Or this war… Nope, not that one, either. I’m referring to the other insanely stupid war that President Donald Trump is forcing his fellow Americans to go along with – the one he’s waging on our neighbors to the north.

In today’s ’First Draft,’ we’ll get right to the point about Trump’s latest endless war; just because the bombs aren’t falling in this one (yet?) does not make the damage any less substantial or consequential. Plus, Hakeem Jeffries takes more fire over a secret meeting with Jared Kushner and the Trump administration prepares for its “Economic D-Day” with Iran. Let’s read in.

DON’T Blame Canada

What happened this weekend wasn’t just folly and ‘Idiocracy.’ It was a scandal – an imperialistic disgrace that’s been going on far too long.

Donald Trump and his administration are waging a full-blown economic war on Canada. We are living in 2026 and in the real world, not in 1995 and in a poorly reviewed Michael Moore movie, or in 1999 in the ‘South Park’ movie. So why, then, is the U.S. at “war” with Canada?

The simple but correct answer is that for the past year and a half, America has been ruled by an astonishingly violent airhead who likes starting wars that pretty much no one asked for – even if those wars mangle the U.S. economy.

Almost right after he stepped back into the White House last year, the tariffs-obsessed Trump unleashed economic warfare on our longtime Canadian allies, for self-destructive and made-up reasons. Trump’s attempted strong-arming led to Canada’s leader declaring an end to the U.S.-led global order as we knew it. That warfare reached its latest, deranged state this past weekend, when trade talks imploded in spectacular fashion.
