And yet, their candidate is polling at almost 49%. What does that say about the populace? A democracy is only as strong as its most stupid participant.
That's why Republicans generally are underfunding public schools in red states and pushing hard on school vouchers. The vouchers mainly pay for the children of affluent white families to go to private, mainly-Christian schools that don't adhere to any set educational standard. Trump loves the uneducated for a reason. If you aren't shown how to analyze information, how to differentiate between reliable information resources and fake ones and how to think for yourself, you are more vulnerable to the disinformation which is the lifeblood of the Republican campaign to implement Project 2025.
And what does that say about the omnipotence of the media, social, anti-social, or otherwise? As long as PACs are able to throw billions into campaigns, who then funnel it straight into the networks' coffers, this media-industrial complex will keep the weak-minded populace enthralled. Step one: elect Harris-Walz; step two: secure majorities in congress; step three: overturn Citizen's United. Until dark money is controlled, nothing will change.
Great point! It’s uncanny that more often than not conversation about the demise of democracy points towards greed and self-interest, which seem to be rampant due to the rise of capitalism without any guardrails
In case you'r not familiar with the song, you might find it well worthwhile looking it up.. It might be an inspiration in the days ahead -" Holding on. Holding it in.""""""
So I see literally Zeteo is doing the MSNBC work. Soooooo disappointed that you keep on pushing the DemoRats propaganda! Harris Trump Biden are ignoble thugs!!! They’re criminal of war slaughtering an entire population and you still promoting the DemoRats as if they’re angels on earth????? They’re all bought up by AIPAC, slaves of IsraHell, power and money greedy and don’t give a flying care about Palestine!! STOP PROMOTING HARRIS AND DEMORATS AS fantastic option. Only 3 party is viable, JILL STEIN is the only human choice!!!!
So naive. Stein is never going to win, & even if she did she would have to deal with Congress. Countering AIPAC & the military complex will take much more than voting for a president every 4 years.
I agree. Zeteo needs to keep the pressure on Democratic leadership to stop the war against Palestinians. I would vote for Stein, but Democrats and Republicans have made ballot access in Illinois difficult to attain.
As always, a very interesting piece, John! It really looks like the Trump/Vance campaign is kinda losing their mind at the moment because they can't figure out how to attack both Harris and Walz in a way, that doesn't make them look like the weirdos they are! And it is so funny to see them getting more and more angry that nothing really sticks outside their base who are celebrating anything they say anyway.
Of course, as a person who doesn't live in the US and obviously doesn't vote in the US I don't haemve that good as insight as I would like to have. So I have to ask, how is Harris perceived by the dem base, especially the base that cares about Gaza. Not only the uncommitted people but the young voters, progressive and more leftist voters, the Muslim voters who didn't want to vote for Biden aso
Are they satisfied with her and Walz, what they said and did (and NOT said and did) so far? I only spoke to some of my friends in the US and tbh they're not happy with both of them re Gaza/Palestine/Israel but granted, they're a bit outside of where mainstream democrats might be on that (and other) topic.
Robert, I think your insights are spot on. I'm a lifelong (quite long, at this point-- think Eugene McCarthy) Democrat, and I'm hoping and praying that Harris cuts off military aid to Israel on day one of her term. Harris can't say she'll do that at this point, because her present job, as VP, requires that she either back Biden's current policy, or resign in protest of it. So she's in the same untenable position Hubert Humphrey was in in 1968. He couldn't come out in opposition the LBJ's genocidal Vietnam policy, while still being VP. How the Dems handle the Chicago protests at their convention will be revealing. I fear what will be revealed, even while attempting to retain a cautious optimism.
Well, I'm just repeating what my friends in the US told me. So, they're spot on ;)
Yes, that's kinda interesting that you talk about the Humphrey thing, because they made the exact same comparison and have the same fear about the convention.
You just proved Mr. Harwood’s point. I know it’s difficult for you MAGAts, but facts, evidence , and truth matter. Go back to Hungary if you can’t abide that.
Nice Ed. Love it or leave it, eh? Never been to Hungary and never been a MAGA. My point was that I thought I was signing up for journalism that wasn’t schilling for one party or the other. Medhi could have stayed at MSNBC or Huffington Post.
Wisconsin was once described by Teddy Rosevelt as “a laboratory for wise experimental legislation aiming to secure the social and political betterment of the people as a whole”. The Progressive Era in Wisconsin defined “The Wisconsin Idea”, encouraging legislation informed by experts of University Wisconsin’s faculty aimed at creating a more equitable society- it was a moral obligation placed on the university to serve the citizens of the state. Wisconsinites loyal to The Wisconsin Idea went drafted much of FDRs “New Deal” and drafted legislation for the creation of Medicare as well. The state that was the first to recognize collective bargaining of public employees, the first to implement worker’s compensation programs and ban corporate donations to politicians in the early 20th century was so successful it lead the country in progressive policies and UW-Madison was a top five research university from early in the 20th century until… Scott Walker. After he ended collective bargaining, created the devastating economic impact caused by excessive tax cuts to corporations- especially one for an overseas company, Foxconn that never even came fruition yet we still are in the hole paying for, the roads were number 2 for worst in the nation and schools were so underfunded that keeping and paying teachers was near impossible. Despite all this, the state went to Conald Dump in 2016, Russian Ron Johnson the insurrectionist was re-elected in 2022 and we remain a swing state vulnerable to candidates like Eric Hovde, a California banker Billionaire that’s funding his own campaign and has pending lawsuits against him in California for Nursing Homes he’s invested in that were found to be violating state staffing regulations to the point of negligence and even has a civil suit for elder abuse being settled. For a man to denigrate farmers, say people in nursing homes shouldn’t be able to vote because they only have months to live (what a lovely display of democratic values and dedication to constitutional principles), oppose brewery and alcohol industries, want overweight people to pay more for medical care and has yet to run on 1 single policy besides “let’s roll up our sleeves” and what appears to be a pro-1970s porn stache stance to even be seen as in the same league as TAMMY BALDWIN, a gosh darn treasure to domestic progressive policy… Robert “Fighting Bob” La Follette wouldn’t be able to recognize the state and what’s left of his Wisconsin Idea. The stupid party recruits through lack of education and educational facilities being a support for democracy and progressive legislation.
Um, no in response to your first sentence. Furthermore, I agree with you in general about the different media leanings, but in these particular cases the claims have been qualified or debunked again and again. Thanks.
Love that theme song from Titanic movie. LOL. With lack of support for the public school system, too many people aren't getting educated to think things through and trust their own judgment. School should do that from early on. Never blame people for what they don't know. It isn't spite or lack of interest on their part, it's simply that knowing how to access trustworthy sources of information, on any subject, isn't all that easy. And if the K-12 system has let you down, and it's let down a lot of people , you can get stuck and not make judgments on politics or anything else that truly relate to your own needs and world view.
I get it. But who said the Harris party is genius? Both are Zionist and want to continue with the genocide using our tax dollars. It’s comical how media outlets try to differentiate the red from the blue. We know there’s no difference.
And yet, their candidate is polling at almost 49%. What does that say about the populace? A democracy is only as strong as its most stupid participant.

We're all working - building a mystery.

Maybe we're building a miracle.
If tRUMP hadn't said multiple stupid things, then I would be worried thinking he may have evolved into a normal human being.
Excellent outline! Probably be ten points more by next week.

Fight like hell for an end to the slaughter in Palestine, but vote for Harris (especially if you're in anything remotely like a swing state).
I agree. Zeteo needs to keep the pressure on Democratic leadership to stop the war against Palestinians. I would vote for Stein, but Democrats and Republicans have made ballot access in Illinois difficult to attain.
Why is this news?

Thank you Zeteo and John Harwood for pointing out what we should be concerned about and take action on to preserve our democratic republic!
HOL HOL -Besides 'the direction' a campaign is going, the polls are useless in this day and age of no one answering their phone or ignoring texts and email surveys. So here's my personal poll HOL: https://open.substack.com/pub/hol4justice/p/theres-just-not-enough-calendar-days?r=f09mi&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Spot on, John Harwood! Glad you're writing freely on Zeteo instead of having to deal with Trump supporters like CNBC or Joe Kernan!
We look at history and think: how could those people do that and how could they be so stupid
……and here it is in real time!!
With this piece Zeteo has further revealed it is no different than MSNBC. An extension of the Democratic Party. Fooled again.
You just proved Mr. Harwood’s point. I know it’s difficult for you MAGAts, but facts, evidence , and truth matter. Go back to Hungary if you can’t abide that.

We blame others, but something is very wrong with us when we say that we care and still standing in support of either the Republicans or Democrats.
Anyone who thinks that either the Republicans or Democrats will do anything that is right is at this point is not in their right mind!
They are all sell outs and they will only do what their buyers will command them.
Jump ship ASAP and support someone else who is not a sellout, like Dr. Jill Stein.
