incredible! had i not read it here i would have thought that the "Sharia-Free America Caucus" was something from Andy Borowitz column. why didn't any of these folks try to ban Christianity when Protestants and Catholics were blowing up women and children in Northern Ireland? how did we get so afraid and so full of hate? hate towards Islam, toward Judaism, toward women, gays, trans, large people, small people... we talk about American values and morals and principles. talk is cheap. a large portion of the US population is wholly ignorant of their own religions much less the teachings of others... i wish that a few people would spend a few minutes learning what the US, Great Britain, the USSR, and France did in the middle east especially after WWI. wish that people would learn how we supported and encouraged mass murder in Argentina, Chile, and other South American countries, and the long laundry list of horrific things the US government did, including supporting the genocide in Gaza and now what appears to be genocide in Iran... they also need to look at the writings of Thomas Jefferson and others about the freedom of religion and separation of church and state within the US... I hope every one of these gets voted out of office...

The trump administration has shown me the great lengths that ignorant people will go to in order to hold on to their racist and xenophobic prejudices. Cunning leaders and manipulators play on the failures of their followers to convince them that others are responsible for their misfortunes and use those fears to advance their own agenda and make their supporters think they are all on the same side.
Islamophobia in the US is primarily driven by post-9/11 "war on terror" narratives, media stereotyping of Muslims as terrorists, and political rhetoric from far-right groups. It is fueled by terrorist attacks carried out by extremists which are used to promote the idea that Islam is a threat. Understanding the United States' role in Iran, from when the United States interfered in Iran multiple times over the past several decades, with the most significant intervention occurring in 1953 would help explain why these actions have created a long history of tension between the two nations.
In the future, educating folks from a young age can help combat some of these misconceptions. Learning about different cultures and histories are critical for teaching knowledge, compassion, empathy and equality.
The bigger, more immediate problem is how to address the mostly white adult population who subscribe to these biases and the amount of time they have had to indoctrinate these as part of their unshakable beliefs. It truly is frightening when people can subscribe to so many fallacies without so much as any willingness to see another side or investigate an alternative. Trump personifies so many prejudices for so many of his supporters, despite the fact that he is not like them, born into wealth and privilege, concerned only of his own wealth and power, hell bent on revenge to anyone who disagrees with him, but like his followers, he does display a great deal of ignorance.
I have great empathy and compassion for anyone who is judged not by their own character but by stereotypes and great disgust and contempt for those who rush to judgment and would rather build up more walls than learn how to exist and appreciate one another. I wish I had the answer as to how to make that happen. The "man" currently in charge of government, and those who support him has set us back so far, so quickly and they seem on course to isolate the US from ever having good international relationships with any nation, in the near future.

It seems to me that most of today's hatred is coming from Christians. I say, based on my experience that the USA would be much better off having more Muslims like Mayor Mamdani in office instead of the hateful Christians. I know that there are Christians who are not hateful towards Muslims, but it seems the hateful ones are the ones making the news.
This absurd and, in my opinion, unconstitutional, "Sharia-Free America Caucus" whose slogan is "Defend the West, Ban Sharia" is absurd, bordering on psychotic, as there is no federal or state or municipal Sharia Law in America to ban! That fact would make it laughable except that it serves to reveal the true, terrifying purpose and malevolent intent of the "Caucus" and each member in it, which is clearly to "ban" all Muslims - and the practice & teaching of Islam itself - within the borders of the United States of America. How far could this wickedness go and what could the ultimate outcomes be if this heinous conspiracy continues it's ascendancy unabated? As I don't have a crystal ball I don't know. But I do have a knowledge of History including the history of past tyrannical, authoritarian regimes which "banned" specific races, religions and those who practiced them. We all know what happened to Jews, Gypsies, Slavs and other "untermenchen" in Hitler's and Goebbles and Görings and Himmler's Third Reich. You think that can't happen here? Think again.
