President Donald Trump unilaterally declared war on Iran after launching a joint attack with Israel, thrusting the United States into a needless, illegal conflict that could endanger Americans and further destabilize the region.
You documented the illegality. Let me add the behavioral architecture: This wasn’t failed diplomacy, it was theater. Trump presented maximalist demands Iran couldn’t accept, held talks one day before strikes, then executed predetermined regime change.
The negotiations were positioning cover while amassing the largest air power since 2003 Iraq.
The November 2025 NSS explicitly outlined this playbook: spheres of influence, regional champions, regime change as doctrine.
Venezuela got narcoterrorism pretext, Iran gets nuclear proliferation. Same mechanism: construct threat, demand capitulation, bomb when they negotiate.
Trump telling Iranians “take over your government” while killing thousands isn’t liberation, it’s imperialism with cruise missiles.
Constitutional crisis: One man launched war without congressional authorization, announced it via Truth Social from Mar-a-Lago, senators learned from TV. The machinery enabling Trump’s illegal war: complicit institutions, normalized executive overreach, Congress as spectator; makes the next war inevitable even after he’s gone.
And “key Democrats” reportedly intentionally delayed a vote on the Massie-Khanna bill to place a decision about war in the hands of Congress because they didn’t want to have to publicly declare their position on war. We need to find out who they are. Some Democrats also stood and applauded Trump’s bellicose rhetoric about Iran in his state of the union address.
Most of the msm isn’t even discussing the illegality of a war. They’re focused on whether it would be good or bad for the U.S. Mediocrity or worse seems to be a job qualification for both Congress and the media. I’m grateful for Zeteo.
I didn’t watch the state of the union, but according to “Useful Idiots,” the Democrats who stood and applauded the Iran portion of Trump’s speech included Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar, Chris Coons and John Fetterman.
I didn't watch the whole thing but I did see Warren applauding something Trump said that was right in her wheelhouse. I can't remember exactly what it was but it was something good and Warren looked surprised and actually applauded. I don't think she's not naive enough to think that he's going to follow through but she would have looked weird NOT applauding for one of her own policies.
You should have watched or followed the event as it was going on. The Senators you mentioned stood and clapped for Veterans and/or for policies that they supported. NO ONE stood for trump.
Well, I boycotted it and watched the alternative state of the union instead. I didn’t want to be an audience to any more of Trump’s lies. But now I’ve heard different reports regarding Warren. Three separate media sites provided video and Warren did stand up and applaud in response to something Trump said about Iran. However, because he said a number of things, she could have been applauding condemnation of the regime — or something else. You’re right — it’s better to see the thing in context before judging.
There isn’t a solution that works within the current institutional framework, because the institutions enabling this have already been captured or neutralized.
What won’t work:
Congressional checks (they learn about war from TV)
Court rulings (defied within 24 hours, see Venezuela / tariffs)
Elections (if he consolidates power through war-time “rally round the flag”)
Internal resistance (the “good people inside” just watched this happen)
What might work, long-term institutional rebuilding:
1.Congressional reassertion - If Democrats take House/Senate in 2026, immediate war powers legislation with enforcement mechanisms. But requires winning elections during active war.
2.State-level resistance - Governors refusing National Guard deployments, states protecting residents from federal overreach. Limited but real power.
International coalition - Democracies building alternative security/economic architecture that doesn’t depend on US reliability. Already happening (Denmark preparing for war WITH us).
4.Economic pressure - Mass consumer action, general strikes, capital flight. Requires coordination most movements can’t achieve.
5.Documentation and accountability - Recording everything for future prosecution. Long game, assumes democracy survives to prosecute.
The honest answer: We’re past prevention. We’re in damage limitation and survival mode until either:
The war fails catastrophically and breaks his political coalition
2026 elections flip Congress despite war-time advantages
Military/intelligence community refuses orders (coup risk)
Economic collapse forces change
None of these are “solutions”….they’re scenarios where the current trajectory might break. The machinery is operational. Stopping it requires either internal collapse or external force greater than executive power.
That’s why I focus on documentation and analysis, so when reconstruction comes, we understand exactly what failed and how to build constraints that actually constrain.
Spot on with the scenarios! The key word is ‘might’…going through the list of scenarios probability of that ‘might’ seems pretty bleak. But hope is something that ‘we the people’ cannot let go of. I appreciate social scientists like you who are doing the amazing task of analysis and documentation.
Your analysis is specific and spot on. As I read through the NSS public version shortly after its release, it became more and more clear that it was not a plan of Defense strategy but, disconcertingly, a plan to wage aggressive war or wars of conquest, especially in the Western Hemisphere but with Iran and the Middle East clearly implicated.
I'm sure you know John F. Kennedy, while on Independent Study arrangement with Harvard, traveled through Europe, including Germany, wrote a major paper upon return from his travels which was published as a book entitled "While England Slept". If a book similar in kind is written in the not too distant future, I don't know what it will be titled. But you have provided a title for a key chapter "While Congress Watched TV and Did . . . Nothing".
We've given nearly $20 billion in military aid to Israel since Trump's criminal regime took office and now, for the second time, we're bombing Iran to satisfy genocidal Netanyahu. Any member of Congress, Republican or Democrat, who has taken money from AIPAC is complicit in this illegal war. But when all is said and done, what Trump is doing is showing off for his base of under-educated racists and billionaire tech bros. Everyone, including Iran, has known for weeks that this attack was coming, just as they knew the previous attack (which Trump falsely claimed had "decimated" Iran's nuclear program) was planned. The Iranian government was able to protect their nuclear facilities then and were able to move the Ayatollah this time. This is a show, but it's one that likely will result in U.S. and Israeli military casualties. And the inevitable protests here will be one more step toward giving Trump justification (at least in his and MAGA's minds) to declare a national emergency or martial law so he can affect the outcome of the midterm elections.
I never cease to be amazed at the utter stupidity of Trump and his goons. This stupidity is almost as amazing as their hubris and their greed.
This attack will have the opposite of the effect our "leaders" claim: It will unify Iran as only a common enemy can.
All of this unnecessary suffering just to keep our eyes diverted from the Epstein files, and preserve Trump and his buddies' "right" to rape little girls.
Whenever one begins to think there are no more masks to fall, we discover new ones, until it's clear it's masks all the way down. Duplicity-R-US. The Pathocracy is incapable of changing. What to do to stop them, before they destroy us all?
The answer is, of course, everything we can. Your organizing efforts have been admirable, and you know that, by ourselves, we are weak, and organized together we are the strongest force on the planet.
I sit here stunned. Not sure why because I knew he was going to do it! This is horrifying! Thank all of the gods that we have Zeteo to provide us with truth!
Are American citizens asleep?!! Your pedo president should not still be in power, where is the anger and his arrest? He is controlled by Israel and is dragging the world into WW3!
Sadly we can’t do it ourselves and too many were lulled into mindless trances by the GOP propaganda machine prior to the 2024 election, thus electing a lapdog complicit GOP legislative branch who lack spines, balls, or any other element that would allow them the capacity to do their f**king jobs. (Which would, at this point be nothing short of impeachment, conviction, and removal of not only the sepia s**tbag, but his sycophantic veep, every cabinet member, and senior White House staffer).

Warren is a shocker the rest expected

And I just saw a clip where she is denouncing this attack on Iran... his distraction from epstein & hopefully loosing congress ...
Yes. Independent media has singled her out for criticism because it was a surprise.

And once again we are doing Bibi's dirty work...
In a sane world this would lead to immediate impeachment and removal from office.
Trump is a war criminal, through and through. He belongs in a prison and then hellfire.

time to stop. lock him up. lock up bb too. they can share a cell
That would be "cruel and unusual punishment", which, in this case, is perfectly appropriate.
"take over your government?" this is all familiar talk...
" storm the capital...." rememeber jan 6?
boy! this creature is a raving lunatic.
Legality is not the word. Treachery.
For aparthied state of violent money stealing.
They talked of peace
But all i see is lies.
Better keep those drug dealers and child trafficers off fox&liars.

In other countries, pedo defenders go to jail, but in this case, they're permitted to start wars.
