I am prepared to be disappointed. What I want him to say about Israel won't be said: conditions to aid, permanent humanitarian ceasefire, and an apology for the failure to act sooner to protect Palestinians from a murderous Netanyahu. Since he will rehash the old tropes about unwavering support for Israel and its right to defend itself, he is going to fall down on that fatal sword hard.

I believe the only way to begin pulling himself out of the hole he has dug would be to admit to his mistake in supporting Netanyahu’s government, apologize for the arms sent and announce that no more arms and financial support will be provided for the genocide. Even that will not be enough for many. Me included.

Biden didn't commit to anything that would stop the genocide in Gaza and stop the ongoing illegal occupation and land grab of the West Bank.

No he did not. Just as I anticipated. He will not change course and the US enabled genocide continues.

Some great advice here, sadly so many people (me included) won’t be watching. Besides, I’m not looking for some talking points or other rehearsed punchlines to change my mind, I’m looking for action and the actions of this self-proclaimed Zionist president are disastrous when I comes to the one issue I care the most, innocent Palestinians lives.

Is it just me or are we living in a moment of history that WTF, doesn’t come close to what we are witnessing. The republicans have departed all decency through their intoxication from power. They are running a candidate who in days gone by would be done and dusted. Joe should focus on majority issues that must be addressed. Women’s reproductive rights and safety from gun violence at home. Internationally a proper resolution of conflicts as in Israel and Ukraine, with a commitment to balance for the Palestinian’s plight.

9. Bring up the fact that we as a country were, in fact, NOT better four years ago with COVID and record unemployment

10. Take aim at the fools who blame him 100% for what's happening in another country just because it's easier for them to blame him than faceless Hamas

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see Biden bootlickers over here so quickly. At some point (hopefully sooner than later), the U.S. (under Biden's leadership) will be held accountable alongside Israel for the terror and genocide that is being committed against the Palestinian people.

Yeah blame Biden who cautioned restraint from the very beginning, and whose administration calls for a ceasefire. Biden doesn't control other nations' armies, he can't control the weather, and he's not stronger than Superman. Shouldn't you be hounding celebrities on their social media right about now because "their silence speaks volumes?" It's another catchphrase we're seeing a lot lately. Losers are very predictable.

The U.S. vetos of a PERMANENT ceasefire at the UNSC speak louder than this weak, watered down "administration is calling for a ceasefire" narrative. They want a pause in the fighting long enough to pump up Biden's approval rating, all the while still sending billions of military aid to Israel to stock up and continue their bombardment as soon as possible. It's the definition of talking out of both sides of your mouth and hoping people are too naive or ignorant (like yourself it seems) to notice.

Medhi says a lot of things. But neither you or this other clown have once pointed the finger Netanyahu who practically allowed this to happen, and who actually has the ability to stop all this. All I'm seeing is "Hurr durr Biden." I get it though, Biden only has two syllables in his name. Who has time for four?

FWIW I was against aid of any kind to Israel long before it was fashionable. You'd think with billions of US $ they'd do as we say, but they don't. Could it be it's because they're actually a different country with different leadership?

Justin netenyahu is the problem but so are his enablers. That's been the case since Ben guirion. I can't control netenyahu does but we can as one voice disapprove of how our tax money is spent. History does show it applies pressure (see below)

Hamas should not exist and would not exist without an occupation. These things don't happen in a vacuum. I come from a place where occupation and a slow erasure of identity has been taking place since as recently as the '90s, I can have empathy for why young men feel the need to do terrible things - you would have more empathy if you experience even half what mine or Palestinian people have. And by you I mean directly you not the generation before you or the generation before that.

When you say things like this Justin it just sounds like you think they deserve it for being who they are and being born in the wrong time/place.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower during the Suez Crisis in 1956. Eisenhower's administration pressured Israel, along with France and the UK, to withdraw their forces from Egyptian territory after the tripartite invasion of Egypt.

If it wasn't for Eisenhower we would not have in Egypt. And because of Biden the Palestinians continue to suffer.

President Obama's administration supported the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen against the Houthi rebels, primarily through logistics, intelligence sharing, and sales of arms and ammunition. The U.S.'s role aimed to restore the internationally recognized government of Yemen. They lost (no surprise there) and there's no unified opposition. The current genocide has bolstered support now for a houthi government so you can have Biden and bibi to thank for that as well.

Notice a pattern there? World policing? Shitty decisions?

What does that have to do with the genocide in Palestine? The US is responsible for what's happened there as well. Re: Obama/Saudi.

Joe Biden is just going to gaslight people that his rebranded 6-week humanitarian pause to let Netanyahu reload before starting the slaughter again is actually a meaningful ceasefire. He’s also going to gloss over the fact that he’s continuing to ship Israel weapons while they deliberately starve a civilian population, because his brain is frozen in 1977 and he refuses to process what the Israeli government has become. Why would I bother watching this charade?

Expand full comment

I'm 50/50 how about this but I honestly think I would have had more respect for him if he had stepped aside like he said he was going to let someone else run and support another candidate. This is even despite the ongoing genocide in Gaza. But his ego and selfishness came in the way clearly. And now his ethnocentric morals are laid out to bear.

The whole ridiculous situation is caused by the fact that Joe Biden accidentally (barely) won in 2020 because Donald Trump spent the entire campaign negligently mismanaging a once-in-a-century pandemic; a pandemic which also gave Joe Biden an excuse to a) stay out of sight, and b)not really run a campaign. But Joe Biden has always been a narcissist, so he’s convinced himself that being President actually validates the way he ran for President, and he simply can’t grasp how hated he is. Anyone else in his situation would have admitted to themselves that they simply got extraordinarily lucky, and walked away for the good of the Democratic Party & the country, but not Joe Biden.

Expand full comment

Accidentally won? Barely won? Biden won the electoral vote and popular vote. Biden won 306 electoral votes to Trump's 232 and 81 million votes to Trump's 74 million. 81 million is a historic record for Americans voting for one candidate. That's big win. Numbers don't lie.

Expand full comment

Yes, Tricia, Joe Biden barely won. There’s a normal thing called population growth that happens over time, so vote totals are stupid to compare. If ~40,000 votes had switched across 3 swing states, Joe Biden would have lost - and that’s WITH a once-in-a-lifetime electoral assist of having an opponent who spent the entire campaign screwing up the COVID response. Anybody strategizing around the popular vote is engaging in a meaningless strategy, because both sides know going into the election that the popular vote doesn’t decide the winner.

Expand full comment

Except the US growth rate has deceased in the last couple years. 2021 saw a 0.16% increase compared to our adverage 0.70% yearly increase rate. 2 million people added in a few years still does not explain a 20 million up tick of votes. You can talk about what ifs all you want, but in the end, Biden still had 70+ more electoral votes and 81 million votes.

Fyi, Trump did more than just screw up a once in a lifetime pandemic.

Expand full comment

Yeah, pandemics that screw up normal population growth like those few years (after the election you’re talking about) are a rare event. If you want to keep kidding yourself that Joe Biden crushed it in 2020, you can. Others don’t have to.

I don’t find his would-be compassionate comments on the slaughter anything but performative while he routinely vetoes a ceasefire, ignores the work of the ICJ, and allows his spokespeople to malign those of us who protest—so many of us Jewish—as comparable to the Charlottesville Nazis. While coming up with idiotic solutions to real starvation such as dropping food from the sky and creating a new port (how long will it take with children dying daily and would Israel allow aid through anyway?) he aids Netanyahu in his longterm goal of destroying the one organization that knows how to help and has lost over a hundred staff members to that end, UNRWA. Yes, I will vote for him, but with nausea rising in my throat. The way he comports himself Thursday is irrelevant.

What the Republicans have done is portray Biden as a drooling idiot who can't string three words together, with competent performances like the one he gave tonight, Biden proves that's a lie.

And they always do this, the Republicans, they always overreach, they take what are legitimate concerns about Biden's age, something that could be a good issue for them, but they can't leave it there, they've got to turn it up to 11 to appease the craziest elements of their base, and they end up talking in language that makes no sense to normal people, doesn't align with the reality that normal people see. They can't help themselves.

Just remember - Republican actions are a threat to you and your families Freedom, Health, Wealth, and Safety. Power and control is what they want and the rest of America be damned.
