He really is a beacon of hope for the US

Beg to differ on the shoveling asphalt being performative. It shows he doesn’t see himself as above the city workers. I used to do janitorial jobs when I managed a business. It let my staff know I didn’t see myself as too good or important to do the things I asked them to do. It builds incredible loyalty.

It gets the attention of the head of the road department to have his bosses' boss out in the street doing the job he ignored for 10 years.

It also showed that he knows that the problem exists.

Which circles right back to Alan’s comment. It’s called leadership, we see little of it in government anymore.

I *really* want Mamdani to succeed. What can I say to those who are very skeptical of him already because he failed to appoint Crystal Hudson or Chi Osse? The NYT article on how none of his Deputy Mayors are Black being a problem is itself problematic--and I would add anti-Asian when it implies that a South Asian like Mamdani doesn't care about race [i.e., doesn't really understand racism]. But Errol Lewis of NY1 is critical, too, but without the charge that Mamdani doesn't care about race.

It's not fair to group Briahna Joy Gray with Bernie-turned-MAGA people. Contrarian, yes, but a humane leftist.

I think we’re going to see a lot of chirping for the first year or so. Being Black myself, I see lots of diversity in his hires but the hires are all done in a way that says he’s looking for the best he can get for the roles that have everything Ryan pointed to in the article.

I don’t need Mamdani to hire people just for the mere sake of diversity. If he can meaningfully improve the material conditions of Black New Yorkers, then that will be way more impactful than hiring a Black person for a job in city hall.

That’s just my five cents (adjusted for inflation).

Don't worry He already succeeded by winning the election and fixing this pothole. If Assholes in our current government let him, he will do the things for NYC people and the future maybe for the country.

ICE Assaults And Kills With Impunity Because They Are Assured They Are Immune

America saw first hand what happens if you forcefully break into the nation’s capitol and ransack its halls So why would ICE agents be concerned about being punished for transgressions against US citizens? Now ICE Barbie wants to claim that ICE is just “doing legitimate law enforcement operations” although given the incidences it’s preposterous to make that assertion

It’s more than likely a standing joke amongst ICE facilities and those roaming American city streets that “you can do anything you to these bastards(US citizens)” Don’t worry about it Cheeto has your back and you know what happened to the J6 people

As a malignant narcissist Cheeto’s regime/Stephen Miller loathes America and its citizens He takes great pleasure in inflicting pain on enemies particularly those who criticize or demean him But America can’t help it because of his moronic presence and idiotic tendencies and policies

The Democratic Party is not willing to change. Mamdani is a card-carrying Democratic Socialist. The current leadership of the Democratic Party has no backbone, which is evident in their position on handing out more money for ICE. To really win in the coming November, the Democrats need to change their leadership.

No excuses! It's been incredible to watch him w Hochul, the Police Commissioner and the people of NYC - so UPLIFTING!!

Mamdani also joined the picket line with the nurses striking at Mt Sinai for better retention, health card, and safety.

In love with Mamdani and this piece (of resistance)

Mayor Mamdani has not been in office long enough to show Demos how to govern. And ye, the 2.2 M (25%) total, Black New Yorkers need to be represented among this new talented mayor’s senior staff/ policymakers.

Thank-you, Ryan...a great read.

I wonder if we could clone Zohran and distribute the clones throughout the US??

I was going to criticize your characterization of Briahna Joy Gray as a 'contrarian', and then I clicked the link to see her chatting with anti-vaxxer Trump official Vinay Prasad. So while I think she does much admirable work...that was definitely a bad decision on her part.

Really interesting analysis on the importance of staffing decisions. Thank you. One thing to note is that Biden had the Congress the 1st half of his admin which I would think played a huge role in his success (in addition to a COS willing and able to work with lefties as you note).

Re Gaza. Do you think Ron Klein would’ve managed this much differently?
