Trump loses yet another press secretary, DOJ abuses, and more in Zeteo’s weekly round-up, documenting the growth of authoritarianism in Trump’s second term.
I read another article that said they had already investigated her in 2019. Trump’s DHS had investigated her and found nothing and she was vindicated. This seems like double jeopardy at the least, but it is definitely vindictive investigation as well as we’ll see about Dave since they approach grand jury’s also vindictive prosecution.
"Double jeopardy" is a premise in US jurisprudence which stipulates that a person tried for a specific crime and found not guilty cannot be tried a second time for the same offense. This applies even if irrefutable, conclusive evidence of said person's guilt can be produced at a later time. Unfortunately, as in Rep. Omar's case, a person can be investigated multiple times for the same or similar reason(s). With a rogue president, a rogue DOJ, etc., such abuse can be extreme, yet difficult - if not impossible - for an honorable judiciary to do anything about.
You're on to something with election interference. At the time of the early morning raid on Rep. Omar's residence, we were well within the window during which DOJ policy is not to pursue candidates or current holders of public office. However, that is only a policy and not law. Thus, there is not much that can be done about it, at least in the short term. Another problem is that Rep. Omar cannot prosecute anyone in federal court, under almost all circumstances, only the DOJ can prosecute cases. She could, if she wished, pursue civil remedies against the offending entities and individuals, but my best opinion is that it would hurt, not help her interests to do so prior to the midterms. Your posts clearly highlight and support areas that need to be reworked in better times to limit the abuses that can be utilized by a rogue president and executive administration.
I love the job that Zeteo does time and time again, by both reporting and fighting the abuse of power of the Trump administration. Today however I am troubled by the way the weekly news are treated basically on the same footing, at the moment when when Ilhan Omar is being directly under vicious attack that touches into the core of democracy and the rule of law. I for one cannot comprehend what I feel is the lack of proper outrage and support for Omar on the part of Zeteo - this is news that should completely overshadow everything else, and this is the situation that requires full fledged commitment to the fight against fascism.
I have been following closely the baseless, dangerous and lawless travesty of an assault upon Rep. Ilhan Omar's rights since the early morning raid upon her home recently. This time around (there have been other times in the past) Trump's police state organs appear to be brazenly pulling out every stop. In addition to attacks of any kind upon Rep. Omar being a favorite pastime of Mr. Trump, the intensity and seriousness of this one seem also directed at the midterms. While some who have left comments pertaining to this matter have generally criticized media - including Zeteo (which I'm not sure is entirely fair) specifically - for not reporting about this current abuse upon Rep. Omar, I must state that I have not had trouble finding good reporting of it and have felt I've been able keep up with it's progression in real time. I have not looked for it in mainstream televised media as I don't expect to find out a lot about many things I'm interested in there, a serious shortcoming I regrettably expect to get worse, not better, into the foreseeable future.
Thank you for still doing this. We are living in dizzying times
Dizzying times, indeed! Well said.
First I heard about it, thank you Zeteo.

It is clear election interference, though against every rule. She should prosecute them.

The person whose citizenship needs to be investigated and revoked is the muskrat.
And Melania and her parents
Zeteo
You broke my heart and my spirit.
Llan the representative is being investigated, threatened with deportation and you say NOTHING?
If not you, than WHO?
How can you leave her alone? Your values? A sister, and we read NOTHING?
My heart is really broken because if not you? Who stand up for the brave women?
Broken heart. Mo is funny. This is deadly.
