From further crackdowns on the media and migrants, to Trump's desperate attempts to shut down the Jeffrey Epstein story, what a(nother) dark week for American democracy!
I read this whole sad litany of abuses by Trump and his administration with disgust. What gives me some relief are the many court cases he continues to lose and the recent episode of the South Park premiere which The Guardian called 'lewd, crude and politically astute'. Don't miss it!
Thank you for my "end of week reminder" regarding why I need to leave the country for my physical safety and mental health. Fortunately, I have EU citizenship.
Thank you, Mehdi. These newsletters are very helpful to me to remember all the lies and corruption of the week. I print them and highlight the most egregious items so I can remember them later. The ZONE is so full that I can hardly believe we've allowed this to happen to us. Take care, DA
It might be helpful if NPR weekend news shows reviewed this. The producers and hosts would find some news worth reporting, rather than fluff and trivia
Do you think there are any similarities between trump and Obama? One commentator recently wrote, “Each motivated voters, but neither particularly educated them.”do you think this is a valid criticism?
Not entirely. The fact is, according to American Public Media (APM - https://www.apmresearchlab.org/10x-adult-literacy), 54% of American adults read at a 6th grade level or lower. That stat combined with a massive diet of radical right-wing media, spells an inability to understand the complexities of our times. Obama could have gone house to house to explain the ACA, but people would not have been interested. How many 6th graders do you know who would be????
As always happens when I read through the week, my BP goes through the roof. I honestly don't know what to say anymore, except that the only way this carnage against our democracy is going to end is by the uprising of millions of people against the trump administration's hold on our government. I can't see any other way to stop it, and it has to be stopped. Every day we edge closer and closer to becoming Russia, pretty soon all media will be shut down except what trump and his right-wing extremists allow. At 70 years old, it's not me I'm concerned about, it's the young people like my nephew and his little boy, who will suffer. I can't possibly be the only one who thinks we need more drastic actions to be taken, now, before it's way too late, if it isn't already. We will never have a fair election in '26, if we have one at all, so nothing will change, unless we force it to. Forget another presidential election, we all know that trump will stay in power, who's going to stop him? 'We The People' are the only ones who can, but not unless we start seriously considering a more aggressive stance. Time is not on our side.
What is sickening is knowing that Trump's going to get away with this with the full assistance of the Corporate Controlled Conservative Press...

This is a great recap of the week. Thank you for this!
