Great comedians see the world sideways. It's like getting down on the floor with a torch when you're looking for something you dropped: every little thing casts a long shadow you would never have seen from up high.
It's actually no surprise that this "lightweight chat with a funny person" podcast you do always comes with such profound insight.
This is a terrible time in many ways. But I love listening to my fellow Beige-istan citizens discuss our dystopian reality so insightfully. Gracias and Shukriya!
"Don't look for justice in this dunya" Hasan's father's wisdom hit me right between the eyes. I know that doesn't mean we give up on the arc which bends in that direction.... lots to ponder after this great conversation. Thanks Mehdi.
A breath of fresh air, almost like reading a book! I was fascinated and filled with wonder from the idea that justice cannot be served on this earthly plane, and can only be “complete” in the afterlife. It struck me with heartfelt meaning since I struggle with the injustice and lawlessness of ghastly acts and deeds of violence that are perpetrated against so many innocent souls.
An enlightened intelligent AnD humble person in crazy times wanting to share. Incredibly liberating to hear of someone dedicated to thinking the best of people, respecting his parents and sharing from his heart of hearts.
And yes:
Read a book. Go deep brothers and sisters, and look within, a river of inspiration flows there.
Oh, god, this is depressing. Hasan is not wrong. And, yes, I got that intel from Uber drivers in NYC. But this, combined with promises of Drill, baby, drill, on Federal lands and rolling back federal environmental policies? It’s a dark future.
Minhaj's cynicism and outright "bury your head in the sand" mentality are disturbing. This was a very sad discussion, and I don't think Medhi pushed back against some of his terrible thinking, especially about race and gender, was shocking.
I've been a fan of Hasan Minhaj's work for a long time. But his small hiatus and the idiotic controversy he was embroiled in seem to have made him very bitter. This was my least favourite Mehdi Hasan chat as it just seemed that his guest was hell bent on showing him up somehow, almost like he came on with some antagonism and needed to negate everything Mehdi said. It was supposed to be a fun, intellectual, insightful chat and yet, half the time I just felt uncomfortable about what Hasan will say to show he thinks Mehdi is out of touch.

Our parents never tasted freedom, it was easy for them to sell out, mine were exhausted. Displacement brings out desperation for safety.

Great episode. I couldn't believe Hasan was fact checked by The New Yorker. Stupid.
