Best money I've spent in a long time! I've gone through my entire 55 years using "dark" humor to deal with personal trauma. I'm looking forward to watching! Thank you for putting this together.

Lovely to see your relaxed smile, Mehdi.

Speaking of intifada as an arabic word for uprising... people are also surprised in the west that the Arabic Bible uses ALLAH to describe God.

Expand full comment

I believe LA is the Arabic word for God, and El is the Jewish name for God.

Interesting, the history of words I mean.

I'm not a scholar but I think you are talking about Al-ilah which is "The God" shortened to say Allah. In other sematic languages like Hebrew and Aramaic I beleive it is "ilah" also with some pronunciation variation. But LA in Arabic is a negation to say "NO" and is not the Arabic word for God. It is used in our Kalimah which starts with LA-ILAHA which means NO GOD. (Of course the kalimah continues so I don't want the readers to think that we are saying there is NO God! The complete kalimah says "There is NO God worthy of worship except Allah")

I loved this so much, it made me cry, brilliant, beautiful, full of heart. You are breaking down stereotypes in the most profound way and being beacons for the truth in this appalling war. I really hope to see more of this.

Another fantastic show Medhi, and thank you also Sammy Obeid, for proving conclusively, once again, the power of laughter in changing hearts and minds. Serious subjects like the Genocide of the Palestinian People, and the necessity of defending the truth and the First Amendment Right of Peaceful Protesters to express their views using Freedom of Speech, are liberated thru the beautiful sounds of laughter. There's too many tears shed for all the wrong reasons in these darkest of days recently, but tears of laughter are not only cathartic, but life affirming . Thanks again for an enlightened, and entertaining conversation. Thanks also to everyone involved with Zeteo, forever "seeking out" the truth of the matter at hand, and in so doing, setting us all free.

Excellent conversation, both serious and funny. I LIKE it!

This was wonderful. I discovered Sammy from clips I saw on IG. He is hilarious while helping to raise public awareness about Palestine. I love the Math jokes. Thank you Sammy and MH. You give us hope. I do think our message is getting across. Look at the world wide protest against this Genocide. I saw a video on IG that showed Mitt Romney asking Blinken how did Israel lose control of the narrative. A very dejected Blinken simply stated he doesn't know and blamed social media. Romney let the cat out of the bag by saying that the impetus for banning Tic Tok was to limit what we could see about what the American Empire was up to. This joint venture between Israel and the US has made both countries vulnerable including Jews all over the world.

When you mix religion and politics, you get war!

Expand full comment

What? How many wars in the last 100 years happened because of religion?

Expand full comment

How many didn’t? If it’s God’s word, it’s God’s word and that’s that! No vote is going to change that! Who needs democracy? Religious fanaticism is ultimately the driver of dissent. And as they say” my father can beat your father at dominoes!”

Expand full comment

So both world wars started because of religion? The Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq War, Ukraine and Yugoslavia were all started because of religion? Is that what you're saying?

Expand full comment

Yes

Expand full comment

Religion in politics is not the only cause of war, but it is a factor. I think you’ll find that most wartime leaders appeal to the faith of their human assets at some point.

Expand full comment

That's awesome! Fascinating almost...

Expand full comment

This is so true and I will add “nationalism” to religion. Religion, nationalism lead to war and in this mix you get martyrs. In so many cases the martyrs are people sacrificed for the cause. Where is the outrage at Hamas declaring that the thousands of deaths in Gaza are martyrs and when they said they would be fine if it were 100,000. (I’m paraphrasing). Am I wrong that the same people who say “genocide “ are the ones who defend those that brought this death upon their community by declaring the dead martyrs?

Expand full comment

do you even know what martyr means? you literally do what both are talking about regarding the word intifada!

And yes, you are wrong about us defending Hamas! And whats your problem with describing what is happening correctly by calling it a genocide?

Expand full comment

People are either ignorant or they’re just simply Islamophobes.

Expand full comment

What does martyr mean? Why does Hamas say that the dead are martyrs and if there were 100,000 it would be okay? Please explain. Why does Hamas invite this killing?

Expand full comment

One who is killed defending his/her religion, himself, his honor, his family, his rights or his properties.

Expand full comment

Also, Islam considers any innocemt victims who are murdered, as martyrs.

Expand full comment

I also looked up martyrs in the dictionary.

I don’t think Hamas is claiming those who they call martyrs were defending their religion, honor, home, etc. I think they were innocent bystanders. My guess is that from the other side’s point they were human shields and the decision was made that having human shields was not going to be a successful strategy.

For those hiding behind the civilians to call them martyrs is immoral as is using them in that way.

Expand full comment

So you think the Hanibal Doctrine is inhumane and immoral? Because that’s what’s happening now. Israel doesn’t care that the hostages are in Rafah. They’re just gonna carpet bomb them and hostages be damned

Expand full comment

Human shields…what do you think the IDF is doing when they build instillations in settlements and kibbutzes? Aren’t they using Israelis as human shields???

Expand full comment

"Human shields" is a deliberate excuse for destruction. Israel has never provided any real evidence of the "human shields" claim.

It is just a convenient and seemingly plausible excuse for destroying the infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and "collateral victims who were in the wrong place at the wrong time." Also, acording to Islam, martyrdom is not just for those who are killed actively defending human rights and innocent lives-- according to Islam, any innocemts murdered ade considered as martyrs. The idea is that God,, in His Divine Mercy, compensates the person whose life was unjustly taken from them. But that doesn't mean innocent people can become martyrs by purposely allowing themselves to be killed. That would be considered as suicide, which is forbidden by Islam. Btw, I am not just speaking off the top of my head-- I have studied Islam and know these things for a fact.
