What Trump doesn't realize about the fires is that they're a firestorm pushed by a very strong windstorm called the Santa Ana winds. What does he want Governor Newsom to do, stand facing the San Gabriel and do a Superman act that blows the winds back to the desert?
These are not normal fires which can be beaten back to a perimeter. Rather, they expand through the winds picking up glowing cinders and sending them miles behind the fire lines where they will start new fires.
I know that it's creating tremendous frustration for the experienced fire fighters who are trying their very best, 10 or 12 or more hours a day, to beat back the fires only to discover that the fire they're fighting has repopulated itself miles behind them.
A mere two centuries of capitalism, and we are approaching the end of human civilization. The capitalist motto, all for ourselves, and nothing for other people, will be our epitaph.
We live in a society of IDIOTS. To even say the words that hurricane-force winds, chronic lack of rain, and generations of people living in denial about the vulnerability of their environments are due to DEI just because the identities of the mayor and fire chief are not that of a mediocre white male... They all test the limits of our empathy and compassion. Readers may be interested to know that fire hydrants in Pacific Palisades are fed by underground tanks that need to be refilled. The system was designed to put out fires for just a few homes at a time that might catch on fire, not for the entire area. These tanks are not connected to any larger-scaled resource that would automatically refill. Someone should have looked at that infrastructure a while ago. No doubt, some city civil engineer voiced concern for years but got sidelined by generations of politicians who do not want to face Climate Change. That's not Gavin Newsom's fault. He's been talking about reform in response to Climate Change for a long, long time. There are more people who influence government and the way public works get designed/deployed than just one governor or just one mayor. Take a look at city councils and all the lobbyists who get paid to influence them. But sure, make this a DEI problem so as to NEVER solve the problem.

Kat, I was pleased to hear you refer to the (human-caused) climate CRISIS, as the root cause of the fires. Unfortunately, the introductory heading and text referred instead to climate change, which is an Orwellian euphemism minimizing and normalizing an existential crisis that the fascist “right” (more doublespeak) denies.
A deeper dive is needed to offset Zeteo’s and mainstream media’s silence with respect to the climate crisis and its genesis, humans in a parasitic rather than symbiotic relationship with the Earth.
