Thank you for your reporting on the New Mayor of New York swearing in office. That, was very exciting and encouraging for our children future. Especially since had been sworn in twice. Senator Sanders is correct about the children’s future. My prayer’s for the New York mayor is that he is able to handle this attack on Venezuela 🇻🇪.

Mamdani put out a statement today and then called Trump to state his opposition to his moves against Venezuela and against Venezuelans in the U.S. including New York. However as indicated in an interview in Latin Times months back he did indicate that he thought that both Cuba and Venezuela were dictatorial regimes, but that sanctions and miilitary attacks don't help..

Electrifying speeches by Bernie Sanders and Mamdani and his team. I wish the team success all the way to achieve the promises he made.

Sanctions actually put the hardship on the regular people I agree. The ruling classes never feel it. trump is already starting to treat Venezuela like it's a colony and he's their king. People won't put up with that once the shock of the tyranny they've suffered through wears off.

We have a new Democratic Socialist mayor in Seattle too. Maybe its a trend!

You and me both Helga. You and me both! We shall see. little dick is being transparent now and most wish he'd kept it under wraps. His base is being accused of things they would never have agree to a year ago. Live and learn.

I believe taking over Venezuela is going to blow up in his face. He's already treating the country like a colony and people may be happy to be rid of Maduro but that doesn't mean they'll accept trump either. Venezuelans have had enough of dictatorships. I think they'll fight harder now for democracy because they are out from under that yoke of tyranny and ain't going back.

We need all of the joy and love along with the inspiration of this Mamdani administration.

Ralph Nader said it long ago, I paraphrase, Americans could have so much and settle for so little.

Thank you. I didn't follow Mamdani's campaign closely so I checked in to watch the Inauguration and see what all the "fuss" was about. I cried. And I wrote a piece about how it reminded me of the promise of JFK's Inauguration when I was a kid. https://karenocamb.substack.com/p/what-jfk-taught-me-about-nycs-new

I got teary-eyed, too. During the campaign I made phone calls with his amazing team into NYC from San Diego. There were equal numbers of people with Jewish surnames and Muslim surnames. That lifted my heart. We can work together for a just cause.

I am horrified, though, about our country's foray into Venezuela. First, the war on drugs needs to end. If we stopped using drugs there wouldn't be any problem. Yes, and why do we need those drugs? Another topic for another time. It's the oil and other resources. I used to grab toys from my sister when I was five. What's the difference? Except instead of my little sister crying you have dead bodies.

Hi - thanks for your comment. Yes - I think many of us are yearning for what in the Age of Aquarius days we used to call "smile on your brother..." I think the exception may be Bernie Sanders who has the same/similar philosophy of "brothers & sisters" but can get stuck on grumpy. But yes - remember when folks of all faiths and no faith rushed to the airports to do what they could to staunch that first horrible Muslim ban? It's in us - that yearning for civility and mutual respect. We've just got to choose it then do it! Thanks!

Some good interviews you did there Prem. Asking all the right questions. I particularly liked listening to Bernie Sanders responses. He is way older than trump, he's 84, so it's not the years it's the intelligence and the ability to talk well and stick to things that you know that people want for their lives to be better, More equality in a city as cosmopolitan as NY is a phenomenal feat when it comes to listening to all and being able to see that people are the same all over. Mamdani understood that just like Bernie has done in his entire career. Neither man backed down. I've always wanted to visit NY but could never afford to. I wish New Yorkers well and that their message will be spread to all areas of the country. People don't like division. That's the realm of the politicians that want to control you. It doesn't have to be that way now that people like Zoran is taking it head on.

Thank you, Prem and team, for a concise and excellent summary of the inauguration and the community that helped Mamdani to win. The interviews were engaging and very motivating. 💕

Maniac Trump is taking over Venezuela, whilst Nicholas Maduro and wife are locked up in a prison in Brooklyn. In an address to the nation, the lunatic president, brazenly, announced the US is going to run Venezuela until such time as [you fill in the blank]. His first word, justifying his act of piracy was not 'democracy' but 'oil' [title of Sinclair Lewis' 1923 novel]. Madman Trump blithely dismissed the 2025 Nobelist for Peace Maria Corina Machado as a transitional figure as 'lightweight'...the lunatic president's replaying G.W. Bush's takeover of Iraq [see, 'Green Zone' with Matt Damon]. Will he put 'boots on the ground' as he acts like a 19 century colonial figure [no Rhodes he! more like a popinjay preening his feathers]? Dulcie Rodriguez, Maduro's replacement, defied Trump by saying there's only one. leader of Venezuela--Nicholas Maduro whose kidnapping is illegal. Long queues or lines of Venezuelans to stock up on food and necessities before provisions run out.
