By attending the Trump address, the Democrats normalized this very abnormal president. All Dems should have boycotted this grotesque parade of lies and imperial strutting.

As a Boomer, I’m disappointed in the younger Gen’s. We got in the streets and marched and protested to get us to where we were pre-Trump. You guys gotta get some spine! We can’t march and protest anymore. We’re on the back nine, the one yard line. Please take up the mantle for all of us and mostly for yourselves.

I, too, protested against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights. But I was never suspended or expelled from university, nor was I ever arrested. Look at what has happened at our universities during the past year to students who valiantly protested against U.S. support of the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Numerous students have been arrested and then expelled; some faculty have been fired. Of course I hope that young and middle-aged people will take to the streets, but I fear that they will face more repercussions. Still, I agree that mass demonstrations will be essential for preserving democracy.

The Dem should have been united in their message and signs: Trump IS CORRUPT. FIGHT OLIGARCHY. FIGHT CORRUPTION.

TRILLIONS of dollars of tax breaks for BILLIONAIRES IS THE BIGGEST CORRUPTION EVER PERPETUATED ON AMERICANS IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.

An unprecedented 13 BILLIONAIRES now run the government. They want TRILLIONS of dollars in tax breaks for themselves and other oligarchs. This is the MOST MASSIVE CORRUPTION EVER SEEN IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.

That should have been every talking point, every sign.

Mehdi- the Democrats will not save us. Please give a voice to third parties. Yes it’s hard! But are you really going to put your chips down on rehabilitating a corporate whore genocidal Democrat party?! Come on man! I’m starting to lose faith in your claims of being intelligently critical. The duopoly is not the solution. You made that point yourself so don’t give up on democracy! Give space to third parties. Help grow them! Come on man! Do it!!!👊🏼✊🏼

I loathe the Dens. Me I’m a Radical socialist, Can’t stand Carville. It has not been a democracy since Citizens United, it’s been a corporate plutocracy. A government by the rich for the rich controlled by the corporate state.Thsts the Dems. Now it’s just fascist. We have a 10 alarm fire.

Eeeeeer. I hate the Dems for what they have let happen. But this show has inspired a letter writing campaign. They should have all boycotted. It would have stolen the press. They should have walked out in solidarity with Green. Another press steel. They should have had an alternative State of the Union. We do need a hostile take over of the Democratic party. Thanks for all the excellent points. But as far as the letter writing campaign, I do think the Democrats don't like their people. That has really hit home in the last year plus with the genocide in Gaza. They will not listen to us.

Mehdi at 26:24 - this is exactly right. New Constitution. I'll keep saying this: The US Constitution privileges white property-owning men over everyone else, and mere amendments are not going to stop white property-owning men from interpreting that way. After hearing Mehdi, I'm thinking, yes, if Republicans are already blowing up the Constitution in a destructive way guaranteed to hurt the American people, then Democrats have an opening to say, well, let's blow it up so that it helps us deliver for the American people. Republicans are doing it because it suits an authoritarian agenda; how can Democrats make significant changes that strengthen the ability of people to flourish? Other constitutions embed equality in the main text, which suggests that the reason for the state to exist at all is to ensure that equality.

It is pathetic that Mehdi continues to insist that the Democratic Party can be the solution to Trump's presidency. The Democrats are the party of war and genocide. They are the party of big business. They are the party of the Affordable Care Act. Stop pretending that Medicare for All is the answer: start talking about true socialized medicine. People on Medicare have to pay a lot of money for their health care. That's not a socialist health care system. Stop parroting the Joe Biden Democrats on Ukraine: Zelensky is not a hero; Putin is not Hitler, and Biden was no Churchill (well, maybe he was, since Churchill surely would have supported the genocide). A third party for peace, socialism, and a multilateral world of countries working together. That's what we need. And the Democrats will never be that.

So agree. Mehdi is far too intelligent to be whining about the feckless Dems so I hope he stops. They are a joke and are done. There are a mere 6 degrees of separation between the two parties. They desperately need a Carter with fire ( honesty) white antiwar version of Obama, a young Sanders, even a Kamala but one who does not pander to aipac or interest groups to rebuild the party or starts a new one, a person who doesn’t run away from Trump but gets under his skin.
