I am reluctant to return to my home in the US, because even though I am a born citizen, I don't consider that a criteria to make me safe. I really don't want my daughter returning to the Land That Hates Women!

In America men hate women and women hate women. In America at least half or more of us respond with anger toward a woman who stands up in pursuit of rising to their full potential. This is so unlike democracies across the globe where nations have females working in typically male roles. Look at all the female Prime Ministers who lead and use their power for the greater good.
Here we experience a part of our culture that is baked in but must be discarded and soon, which is misogyny and prejudice. I draw a parallel when comparing America to other democracies such as those in Scandinavia but others as well. America is stuck in the development state of adolescence.
A democracy cannot survive if the citizens are stuck as we are here in America where we cull people based on gender, race, creed and other demographics disallowing them from participating and applying their full potential and even genius to serve our nation and our world. Those fully "accepted" to lead and hold power springs from a very small and stagnant pool as a result. And I attribute this as part of our current downfall.
A democracy cannot sustain if the nation is stuck as we are in adolescence while our contemporary nations barrel along in their maturity toward a state of full self-actualization. Oh, the things we might have achieved by now if we had not constrained whom amongst us may participate and lead with power.
Raissa, Our democracy is at different points depending on where you live. I am at the point where I think to save "the Democracy" the Blue States must separate from the Red States and allow people to leave or come as they wish to align themselves. A new nation can be formed called the United Blue States. Ready to stay in NATO and keep USs traditional allies. Then, let the Red States be The Confederate States of America and fly their flag, and tell everyone that they are cool because they have Trump as their king.
I say this because I am reading Jefferson Cowie's book Freedom's Dominion. In it he is talking about the concept of freedom developed from having slaves, so a White, male entitled right to own other people and do whatever they want without consequences. Then I read this article from the Bulwark that someone in my bookclub shared. It talks about how the red states are just less developed democratically from the git go.
If this does not happen, I have grave concerns for the groups who are targeted by this administration, which at this point is pretty much everyone except for Billionaires. I wrote this two articles on this, this one being the more recent one, with a link to the first one. This is A Plan C for Catastrophe.
I am in Germany right now, where I have my battles to take on too. The good news here is that even though the far right gained, the Left gained too. And, it is not so much the traditional left, which are the Russian propaganda influenced we love left dictatorships because they are anti-American imperialism. Instead it is a youth movement more of women than men, but that is the same shift as in the USA. Here is Anand's Girahandas' Substack The INK, where he interviews someone from the Left about how they had a TikTok campaign, and a door knocking campaign and a Left influencer.
thank you — will catch up and read what you provided so not as versed as you are in the subject — and really appreciate what you have shared — ignorance drags down the full potential of humanity — when I face this reality it for me feels like someone’s hands are around my neck and I cannot breathe — it is a sense of panic and loss and grief all rolled into one — or maybe humanity has reached its full potential — perhaps as a species were are programmed to self-destruct and that time is now — we are nothing more than animals — no different and species do go extinct — just looking at both sides of the coin — my hope is that we are just hobbling a bit slower than I can personally bear toward our full potential — and I’m jealous we do not have the governments where there is more enlightenment and a firmer hold on the value of protecting the dignity of each individual — we need a leader
Why? Because I have been reading the book Freedom's Dominion by Jefferson Cowie, a Canadian Historian. He is defining the concept of Freedom that evolved in our Slave owning country, and that many subscribe to Freedom to own others and do whatever you want. That is known as free for me, but not for thee. I call it the New Feudalism, in that Musk and Trump are truly reviving it. He examines a place in Alabama where these rich, white male ownership and the rest of us as serfs has a strong hold. It is like a cancer and is spreading due to lack of enlightenment.
Then, a friend shared this The Bulwark article about the South, and it made me think why force those to be democratic who do not want to be. Let us just split off.
I am reading your sources and articles; the reference to the south and prison system strike a chord. My brother for a short time worked as a prison guard in South Carolina. There was a prison who served time, released and within days reincarcerated; and he would cry all night; my brother befriended him and would stay with him throughout the night; turns out he was mentally impaired and incapable of helping himself; he owed child support but could not find work; was imprisoned and released and it was even harder to find work; but the main thing my brother noticed was due to his mental disability (my brother stated he was slow or maybe worse) he had no ability to navigate and is likely still locked up today. My sweet brother is very compassionate and intelligent too. I worked in behavioral health not long ago and was assigned as an Intake Coordinator; one call was from Georgia the man was imprisoned but although I cannot remember the details, he was not getting a fair shake or the representation he needed and was navigating coming back to the northeast; he needed a counselor and wanted that set up for his return. I don’t remember the details but informed by my brother’s story I was able to hear what he was saying and offer him as much help as I could offer including resources locally that may be able to help him. He was in the process of untying a Gordion knot. I’ll never forget the stories of that man and the one my brother extended love and kindness to; but even in that case the victim is there before you but the system blocks all aid. I believe in the rights of everyone and believe it is actually a sin against humanity to not offer a hand if anyone asks for help; and to see myself or my child or a loved one in the face of a stranger.
I was not aware that the word "humanist" aligned with my thinking. I read the article about seceding and I think using the word "BLUE" in the name of the new nation is too much of a reminder of the pain that caused the "divorce" like moving and taking the dirty laundry with you; the trauma that caused you to leave rather than processing it without holding on to any souvenirs.
I may be wrong as I am often, but I thought maybe "The Newly Formed States of America" would be more forward thinking and a healthy turning of our backs away from the tired old RED / BLUE argument that our media profited from and further divided us.
It would also not bar enlightened people converting from RED states to a nation more in line with their values and interpretation of our Constitution. It would be less "exclusive" in other words.
I lived in a town in NY Southold and some thirty-five years ago there was a very serious and well supported move to secede from NY State -- and the movement as well as the proposed new name for the town was to be United Southold. The town has a long history of being very independent and that's why I love it still.
Someone else today suggested The Democratic States of America. I like both that and the Newly Formed States better than the Blue States of America. At some point the newly formed states will not be newly formed. However, the democratic can also be a misnomer if people do not create a constitution that guarantees that and protect it. Look at the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That did not turn out too well.
I like the history of your town, and we get to be independent if we want to be.

Raissa, today I am all about the Blue States Secession.

Any challenges from that will be more hopeful and not more chaotic than this destruction of our entire democracy.

Raissa, that is being a humanist. We should all be humanists.
