Frederick Douglas was beaten every day at Misery Plantation in Maryland. The day he won his freedom, he turned the tables and beat the overseer.

Douglas became an orator that travelled the world. He had already taught himself how to read while enslaved. We are reading and studying, too.

Our task is to seize the moment.

“Power concedes nothing without a demand, it never has and never will.”

-Frederick Douglas
