I've read so much, I've forgotten where I read this (so apologies for not citing original thought): a better way to describe the DOJ action this week is "Thursday Mutiny," rather than a massacre. Ms. Sassoon and the other attorneys voluntarily stood in righteous anger at the atrocity that is Emil Bove.
Suggestion for Zeteo (I saw this on a podcast) to track prices of call it 4 basic goods on a weekly or monthly basis under Trump's presidency, as with all this, inflation is highly likely. If possible to compare to Biden, that will be interesting. Just post it on your website as something for all to see.
It is well and good to summarize what has been done. Now do some projecting and tell us what we can expect next. It ought not be hard to do. Project 2025 ad Germany 1933 are the roadmaps.
I expect purging of the judiciary, attacks on the media, military confronting protesters, arrests of critics, calling off elections as they are rigged and divisive, deputizing auxiliary police to help with roundups.
Alone each of these actions of Trump seem to not add up to destruction of our Democracy but It’s stepping back and looking at the big picture that’s important that shows Trump’s intent. It’s both the stupid things that Trumps does to the more egregious activities that are destroying the USA’s Democracy. Things like renaming the Gulf of Mexico, to closing programs that benefit US citizens from harm from our government and corporations or ones that investigated him or Musk, to allowing only the news companies that pay him favors in what ever form or flatter him, or only selectively cover his activities that keep the truth from reaching the masses; to wanting to impeach judges for ruling against him, to illegally disregarding that Congress controls the purse, to trying to override our Constitution with eliminating birthright citizenship. These all are not random actions. Sure some people are riled up and cheering for these actions, (Why I will never understand. Maybe I’m too empathetic.) but realize Trump and Musk doing these things are all meant to gain more and more power, more weakening and controlling of each branch of government to make them mute, more movement towards being a Dictator. Who will obey? Who will follow his orders because of fear of retaliation, fear for their job, fear for their life? This is already happening! None of the things Trump and Musk are doing will benefit us. Zero. In fact they are all going to harm us and our Democracy in the short and long run.
These guys don't take off on the weekends, or their mouthpieces don't. Please see and RESPOND TO/FACT CHECK a Fox News story that came out in the last hour supposedly detailing the billions of dollars in frauda and waste at various government agencies. I don't believe it on Fox News's say-so, but Fox readers do!!!
Thank you for organizing the barrage of news according to the date on which important events occurred--every day--with a bulleted point for each event under its respective date. In spite of the chaos, you provide much needed clarity.
I'm continually left asking myself a set of rhetorical questions: At what point do these sycophants sell their souls, and what is their motivation? Is it career advancement? Power? Money? Remember when Marco Rubio was referred to as "Little Marco" and now he's traveling the world promising to "finish the job" on Iran and meeting for peace talks on the war on Ukraine without including its president. What about all those in congress going along with what is clearly unconstitutional? What makes selling your soul a worthwhile cost, even if it means tens of thousands of humans will suffer or perish?
As for the list, the data geek in me is always tempted to paste these points into a spreadsheet so I can sort topics and track common themes. I'm sure someone else is already doing that. As always, here's to Zeteo. Bravo for being so good at what you do.
This week there is no meaningful entry for any democratic senator or congressman, individually or collectively, taking any action to slow things down or present a real strategy.
I am now rejecting the phrase "attempted coup." The coup has succeeded. This major battle/campaign is lost. There is no organized resistance even though there are many people in the country willing to resist. But no leadership.
I have suggested before, and now believe more than ever, that as many progressive democrats as are truly willing to imagine a real future for this country should join and take over the Green Party. The Green Party has about 235,000 members. If Bernie and AOC and twenty other progressive legislators did this, they could realistically bring four or five million new members. They would have to work to get ballot access in more states, but it could be done. Our two-party system has failed and is irreparable. It's time for a vision for a new America, based on social justice, the environment and true national security.
Appreciate the breakdown as there is so much going on it is easy to miss some of these stories. Another thing that the magazine Mother Jones reported this week was in regards to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his desire to start sending individuals on antidepressants and other mental health drugs to “wellness camps” (https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/02/kennedy-rfk-antidepressants-ssri-school-shootings/).
