Pakistani Generals are loyal to their US paymasters - they know a free Imran Khan would be a nuisance on the global stage especially for Palestinian rights. Imran Khan is not just a loss for Pakistans future but the entire global muslim population - Arab leaders also happy he is confined as he made them look like the western loving idiots they are. Arab leaders serve the same paymaster unfortunately.
Haven't massive oil and gas reserves been "recently discovered" in Pakistan? Khan would never let foreign companies take control and exploit natural resources. Unfortunately, it does seem likely that Khan will perish in prison. If they can't handle him as a "messiah", how will they handle him as a "martyr"?
