Tragically, the Bibi government is doing its "final solution" to their Palestinian problem: ignore the more than 500 investigations into crimes against humanity by the IDF, begin the ethnic cleansing of Gaza in the north with swift, ongoing reconstruction of Israeli roads and buildings, and annex the West Bank even before the Jewish settler finish stealing it. As Egeland documents, make Gaza into a desolate hell devoid of living Palestinians, and before the U.S. gets off its prone position of acquiescence to Israel, announce the creation of Greater Eretz Israel on the rubble, bones and bodies of the Palestinians. The Palestinians will never surrender their resilience, their astonishing ability to bear pain and suffering, or their hope-- until the very last breath of the very last of them.

I cannot tap the "heart" to indicate my agreement, Daniel. Perhaps a broken heart? My conversations with those trying to survive in Gaza have become agonizing. But you are correct, in that they don't give up and are profoundly grateful for any help they receive thru their GoFundMe accounts. The prices have gone thru the roof, as most "merchants" are ripping off their own people. Social order is rapidly breaking down, with the assistance of the sadistic IDF and their leaders. Israel deserves to be the most despised nation on earth. Forever. Perhaps the US is right behind them.

Fran, thank you for your heartfelt comments. I belong to a Florida non-profit that has worked for years to help the Palestinians and now we're working doubly-hard to get a ceasefire, end our complicity in this tragedy, and forge new leadership for a free and independent Palestine. Currently we are co-sponsoring a campaign we call "Taking a Stand for the Holy Land" to educate and encourage Christian churches in particular to stand up and speak out on behalf of the last lands still in the hands of Palestinian Christians. We have 17 national religious organization involved. We also co-sponsored a tour by Gazan Health Workers telling what they witness during their three-week tours in Gaza. Nurse Rana returned from her last tour and learned her sister's child in the West Bank was shot dead by an Israeli sniper while she sat in front of her home. If you wish, take a look at our website at www.partnersforpalestine.org. At our weekly meeting we spoke with Josh Paul, the state department official who resigned rather than go along with the Biden administration's actions, and also the leader of HEAL, an organization that feeds 4000 people a day a warm meal and also brings severely injured children to the U.S. for treatment. We also got the Chautauqua Institution in New York to realize they didn't have a voice speaking for the Palestinians at their summer program but did have Israeli voices. They are looking over the list of 15 individuals we are recommending as speakers. We are helping with U.S. tours by IDF soldiers refusing to return to Gaza, the Good Shepherd Collective that rebuilds homes destroyed by Israeli bulldozers, and Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh who is an outspoken Palestinian-American who returned to establish a bio-diversity farm and refuge near Bethlehem. Whatever we do, it is not enough. Best wishes.

3:30 “Israel — as a member of the UN, created by the UN — should really be better than Hamas, better than Hezbollah…”

•••

I wish decent people would guard against feeding Israel’s false claim, that it’s being held to a higher standard. Israel has been held to no standards, whatsoever.

The problem is not just that “Israel should be better than Hamas”; the problem is that Israel is SO MUCH WORSE than Hamas. People created Hamas, as they resorted to increasingly-desperate measures, to try to protect themselves from Israel.

The problem is that Israel is so much worse than Hamas, that ONE DAY of Hamas-inflicted terrorism — in response to over SEVEN DECADES of Israeli-inflicted terrorism — is portrayed as justification for dropping any pretense of civilization, and shifting Israel’s slow-motion genocidal annexation of Palestine, into high-gear.

Israel’s DECADES of systematized racism & savagery — Israel’s brutal apartheid, institutionalized rape & torture, land theft, resource theft, and maniacal destruction — are not just SOME context; they are THE context. They demonstrate the fact that this genocide does not represent a different path for Israel, only an ESCALATION of Israel’s long-established policies & practices.

Israel’s blockading of food, medicine & other necessities of life, is not new; it is ESCALATED. Israel’s military-targeting of schools, hospitals, religious sites, aid-providers, journalists, and especially children, is not new; it is ESCALATED.

Any sane & honest assessment of Israel, would conclude that Israel is more malicious, more sadistic, infinitely more deadly, and consistently more deceitful than any of the organizations that were founded to fight BACK.

I’m so sad for the Palestinians, such monstrous injustice. We have to keep fighting, but the heartbreak is very hard to bear.

Daniel and Fran, you're spot on. However, the US's role in all of this is barely discussed. The Nation did a solid piece on this issue. Everything Israel is doing is essentially being green-lit by the US. While US officials may not approve of the methods, they don't seem to mind the outcome. And these are Democrats. They aren't friends to the majority and they are Republicans lite. They are a less bad alternative which doesn't make them good. Voting Democrat isn't a vote for good.

Mehdi and Zeteo would do well to create a new media platform. I truly believe they could. There are many alternative media outlets out there, and if they came together, they could offer significant support to the world. The mainstream media has failed us, and so has Western democracy. I don't have a perfect solution, but the current system isn't working for the majority.

Well, I do have a legitimate beef with Zeteo's lack of customer service/interaction! :-) And they owe me $ 100. But quite minor compared to the topic Mehdi & Jan Egeland discuss.

“Peace demands the united efforts of us all. Who can foresee what spark might ignite the fuse?” Haile Selassie

“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.” Haile Selassie

Think of ALL the billionaires who have made it possible for evil to triumph.

As someone wrote me the other day, "Any effort to end this madness is welcome. I just spent my day with Palestinian kids who were evacuated from Gaza living here in the refugee compound in Doha. 10% has an amputed limb…"

So, why can't "A Spark" exist that is unforeseen?
