These are the sort of pieces that make this subscription worth it. I don't find these types except in some academic spaces I've been in because when advertisers are on the line then no one wants to ask big questions, or open space to marinate on hard topics that we don't want to discuss but must to grow as a society.
Came here to say exactly this! I subscribed as soon as Zeteo launched last year, and have found its content and coverage only getting better and better. And as much as I love Mehdi's stuff, I really appreciate how Zeteo also makes rooms for other stellar contributors (Prem Thakker, Diana Buttu, Rula Jebreal, so many others), and incredible guest contributors.
A holocaust was committed against the Jews, before the Jews turned around and committed a worse holocaust against the Palestinians. That's the long and short of it.
Excellent, but it all comes down to this: some people are sociopathic ethnonarcissists. Some are not. I have former, also Jewish friends who cannot give up the ego-crack of being a multimillionaire in the US but more terrified of Gazan babies than a migrant living here illegally is of ICE.
It’s just lubricant for their nonstop masturbation in the mirror, as are the endless deaths. Sick people. I grew up in the same milieu. I’m nothing extraordinary. Just not a monster.
its simple - its just colonialism! what makes it despicable is that it happens in, what we believe to be, a post colonial world and is defended and supported by history’s worst colonialists. Sapiens seem to have learned nothing from history and worse- we have forked tongues when it comes to democracy, human rights and values. shame on you Europe and US!!!
I only have one critique, and it is addressed in the piece, namely that the most important thing to come out of WWII were the modern rules of warfare that make much of what both the Allies and Axis did quite illegal (like carpet bombing cities).
This is important for Israel in particular because Israeli apologists tend to pretend the legal lanscape under international laws of war never drastically changed.
And it shows in the way Israel wages war, in particular by routinely engaging in collective punishment and by the VERY disproportionate civilian deaths vs valid military targets in their bombing campaigns.
An important article which I wish more people - particularly genocide-deniers and Israeli apologists - would read. I do need to say, though, that it's a shame that Goldberg is not interrogating 7/10 properly. Goldberg states comments of the' destruction of communities, the 250 hostages, and sexual violence,' of that day. It's really important to challenge mainstream western media and Israeli political discourse on this matter. 1) the UN could find no evidence of sexual violence on 7/10. 2) It was widely reported on Israeli media, and has been reported on independent media channels internationally, that Israel invoked the Hannibal Directive on 7/10, as well as leaving the border deliberately unmanned for 7 hours. Furthermore, Gaza is one of the most surveilled areas (if not the most) of the world - which should prompt questions as to how this attack was possible (and indeed this has been questioned by military experts). While it's incontestable that hostages were taken, to infer that the destruction wreaked on Israeli houses and towns surrounding Gaza could have been created wholly by Hamas is really disingenuous - they don't have the military capability to destroy on that scale (a fact which has also been analysed by military experts).
I am always astonished at the celerity with which some Israeli supporters pretend that the Nakba never occurred and genuinely believe that Jews were somehow entitled to Palestine because it was their ancestral homeland (even though Jews were last a majority of the Palestinian population in the 4th or 5th century AD). The propaganda surrounding all of this has been incessant and effective and it has seriously perverted society’s broad understanding of history.
oct 7 was not the beginning of the israeli palestinian conflict. not the beginning of history. look at what the Palestinians have endured since 1948 and even before. Hamas only took root in 1987.
The second holocaust, renders the first holocaust impotent, Nothing was learned from it, It is now irrelevent, just a matter of Jews being in the wrong place at the wrong time. nothing more than bad luck for them . And they must stop comlaining about it, no one gives a damn any more.
Antisemitism ? Israel has caused all of the antisemitism around the world,
Give it to them . It might make them understand. Although I doubt it.
They have to wear it, and be seen to be wearing it, Its our call.

Exactly, it just keeps improving and producing compelling, passionate, interesting stories and articles.
100% agree! Well said.

Thank you for this thought-provoking piece. I hope it reaches a large audience who need to hear these views. I share them.

Of course I know this.. not sure why you are telling me?!
Who cares about the Nazi holocaust,
When there is the Gaza holocaust stareing down at us in technicolour from the source.
Jews must be able to see that the Nazi holocaust is over as an excuse to kill others ?.
No one wants to listen to them anymore.
The question remains about that incident is .
What did they do to deserve it. ????
