Mehdi speaks to Geir Pedersen, the UN’s top official on Syria, about the fall of Assad, Israel’s seizure of Syrian land, the role of Jolani, and whether the UN failed the Syrian people.
Before I even have time to watch this, the United States bombed 75 separate sites in Syria almost immediately after Assad fled. Addressing this only to Israel is total b*******. The United States is running all of this, including Gaza
And Israel is running the United States. Turkey, Israel, US need to back off! And give the Syrian people a chance to build a decent life, a decent government. They could make a mess of it, for sure, become an Islamic dictatorship, but let them try.
As long as nobody counters Israel they will continue stealing land. That's why they have no permanent borders. They haven't finished stealing. Will nobody stop them? They always have the crummy excuse of "we're preempting a strike, that's why we have troops inside the border!" What!!!!
I've always believed in the concept of the United Nations but have to admit that in moving past the self-importance exhibited by UN officials, secretaries, emissaries and the like, I can't recall any instance of the UN actually bringing peace to a country or region, stopping wars or standing up with a muscular approach to any of the real monsters in power in this world.
It’s the muscle that’s missing, and the veto power of pushy nations like my own surgically strike that muscle. Not only do we veto declarations, but we march around and war where we want saying we know best. What our bond is with Israel becomes more apparent these days, we want to transform the Middle East to secure profit which is
Our Way Of Life… and Israel wants its own way of life which counts on carving up and out its Arab neighbors… that’s how it seems to me. I am not well educated or well informed, but how plain can it be then that I can see it?
Spoiler Alert: the end result is not a normalized Israel. It's an annihilated Israel. There won't be a settlement. Palestine from the River to the Sea is not negotiable. 7 million Zionists in Palestine can find someplace else to live, and it won't be Syria. They can either return to the Khaganate in Ukraine or hop a Space X flight to Mars.
The General Assembly needs be called on to pass a Uniting for Peace resolutions that has teeth as outlined by San Husseini here https://open.substack.com/pub/husseini/p/end-israels-legal-impunity-target?r=39z3o&utm_medium=ios because the illegal occupation had killed UN personnel with impunity, violated every anti settlement resolution, Geneva Convention, and the UDHR, all with US security council veto proofed impunity.
I’m sure Syrians are keen to rebuild and finally have peace. The problem is Turkey and Israel trying to steal land and acquire more power. US seems undeterred in its support for Israel. Even at the expense of its own national security and world standing. The zionists are greedy and are bombing people to oblivion. Horrific and tragic what the Syrians and Palestinians have suffered. The UN has been a bystander. Israel should be ousted or suspended from the UN. They have abdicated on numerous occasions.
Are you seriously fucking confused on the Golan Heights, Mehdi? They belong to Syria, not Israel. You did the non-journalistic, mainstream media thing of giving Netanyahu a voice without any context. You let Pedersen denounce Netanyahu's statement on Golan. Be part of the solution, Mehdi, not the problem.
The proper term to describe what has happened in Syria is Nakba. The same Nakba as the Palestinian Nakba, but 2024 instead of 1948. In the 1930s, Britain armed the Ashkenazi terrorist Hagana, what is today Likud and the IDF, to displace, occupy, and fragment Palestine and the Palestinian people. It's called al-Nakba, the Catastrophe, but broken into its parts is is the displacement, occupation, and fragmentation of a nation-state, its sovereignty, its land, and its people by ethnic cleansing (See Khalidi, Hundred Years War; Pappe, Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine; Eghbariah, Nakba as a Legal Concept.) They fractured Palestine then took the pieces for themselves. That is exactly what happened in Syria when the US, Israel, and Turkiye armed and instituted an ex-Qaeda/ISIS affiliate to attack the Assad government from Idlib. In doing so, they have displaced the State of Syria, which they are now occupying. Syria is now displaced from its sovereignty and its land, and it is being occupied by no less than three different states, Turkiye, US, and Israel, and several foreign Jihadist groups that have been re-branded as the "Syrian rebels." They Nakbaed Syria. The ICJ and UN Security Council should issue immediate orders protecting and preserving the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity. We cannot allow the Axis of Occupation to do to Syria what they did to Palestine.
Please keep sending us information on continuing developments Zeteo Team. We need independent journalism now more than ever. Thank you for being in the trenches with the independents Mehdi.
Thank you Mehdi Hassan and Geir Pedersen for at least having this short discussion about a huge event in the world that has been barely mentioned in any great depth by other media platforms. It’s become hellishly confusing who is who in Syria since the first bands of mercenaries tanked their way in from - was it Iraq? Funny not funny how the media seems to have always called them rebels (as proscribed groups) and yet they call Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists. Everyone want a bit of Syria, it makes me very angry. Another ancient civilisation, I’m told beautiful people, occupied, in ruins. The Assad family have done terrible things, I am thankful Iwas never a victim of their wrath. But it’s not the whole story by any means. And I truly believe that when the Western powers get behind a war against a country, that regime must be doing something good. I’m as ashamed of my country’s role in the destabilisation of Syria as I am of the same in Iraq and Libya. The carve up continues and I fear it will be the same legacy as Iraq and Libya. must now do more research and catch up on what’s happening there, but Mr Pedersen gave me some good pointers. If anyone can recommend stuff I should read, I’d be grateful

What I would like to understand is the reason for Israel to bomb Syria now.
SIMPLY that is a 'pre-need' self defense measure.
bomb 'em, first, just in case...(being snarky...)
Preemptive mesure to an all new level!
I listened, I think, to the full interview, but didn't hear any discussion about Israel and its illegal actions in regard to Syria.
At 8:30 in the video, it’s right there.
It was there though. They did talk about the Golan.

Always important and informative interviews!

Is it a different light or has you aged fast recently?!
I think you need a vacation bro!
Do NOT platform Netanyahu, Israel, Türkiye, or the US on Syria. That’s a subscription terminating move as far as I am concerned.
