Folks, please read the piece and not just the headline. The question in the headline is being asked by others. I specifically say in the piece that I don’t think he won the election tonight. Sheesh.

I mean...you called the folks making this prediction "very online" and I can't help but think that maybe I, too, am "very online," since that's where my head went.

Also "Reichstag Fire," but never the less...

Hell, no he didn't win election tonight. I've been concerned something like this would happen, surprised hasn't happened before now to either candidate. Either way we DO NOT NEED or WANT this VIOLENCE in America or elsewhere! Unfortunately, the way this happened raises questions if this was staged, or some other plot that went horribly wrong. SMH!!

The headline itself is misleading and clickbait. I just got my paid subscription and this headline makes me second guess. Time will tell how the future headlines go.

The headline is a question, so it’s not misleading. I doubt you will regret subscribing bc the content is smart, in-depth, timely and multi-faceted. Enjoy!

I've been a follower of Mehdi since before Zeteo. I will continue to follow him. I've been hoping for something new, engaging, fresh, and viewpoints not provided in the US MSM. He has provided that for the most part. I don't have to agree to appreciate.

Given the event from yesterday and how emotionally charged it was and is, I was taken aback. I am still concerned.

As I said above, time will tell.

Welcome to Zeteo! I’m one of the first subscribers and I love it, Mehdi is awesome, hope u enjoy it! Instead of (right away) criticize it, it’s a pity

Yes, definitely click-bait. A lot of click-bait headlines are phrased in the form of a question. Guy's got a media enterprise to get started, this is what you gotta do, I guess.

It’s the saddest thing in the world watching grown adults sharing the photo of Trump raising his fist with the American flag behind him, as if this disgusting charlatan is a hero. Trump has done everything in his power to make America nastier, more violent, and more hateful. I’m not blaming him for what happened, but he is a wannabe tyrant who doesn’t give a fuck about America.

Seemed pretty clear, but sometimes hotheads just need to accuse you of being a hothead.

Sheesh indeed!!! Your piece was spot on. The headline is what 99% of people thought whether they want to admit it or not. Also everyone should recall that Zeteo is for grown ups. If you don't wanna grow up, just go watch Maddow preside over another 10 person pundit summit at MSNBC (or go watch Van Jones cry on CNN).

well, Mehdi, I think you should own the fact that maybe you did a bit of click-bait-y, headline catching type of story here, and sourcing/reacting to Twitter posts as "evidence" as opposed to being more thoughtful about whether or not this should be characterized as "political violence" when this man has single-handedly been stoking the fires calling for political violence. Americans are facing a mess. People need to ask why and how they/we got here. We've got two old fools vying for the top office, while we can see all these VERY QUALIFIED people standing around who could take the reins. They were arguing about who was better at golf, for fuck's sake. They do not deserve to be doing what they are doing. No business owner in their right mind would hire any one of these two fools as employees. Why the hell are they the final candidates to be hired into the White House? We're not in a new moment. We're in a VERY BAD moment.

I will say this: it is now harder for Biden to campaign against Trump. I mean, for fully a third of Americans- the idiot and fanatical Trump base - Trump is now a martyr. And of course Trump ADORES being a martyr. He will thus be harder for Biden to attack, which- repeat- will weigh heavily on the campaign.

I’m sure you have seen Steve Schmidt’s comments- If not, read them. A very sobering and accurate account of what we are now in for.

I agree that folk should have read the article before commenting. I read first all the time. Your "very online" comment is spot on because too many social media folk only read the headline and then write a dissertation based on that. I think you are right that democracy has lost. But it has been losing since the beginning with the foundation based on a bloody revolution supposedly based on liberty and the justification of the genocide of Native peoples and the enslavement of Native and African peoples. Truth is the US is in a lose-lose situation regardless if Trump wins or loses, either way, this is going to be a mess. He and his people will not take a loss laying down. We had better brace ourselves. This is gett

Mehdi, While I understood your intended thesis from reading today’s piece, I simply would note that MAGA’s steady drumbeat blaming Trump’s opponents for Trump’s indictment, for the gag orders, and now for trying to kill him demands that the leader of the Democratic Party, without a script, from the heart, be able aggressively to prosecute the case against Trump. My greatest fear is that Biden, whom I don’t believe will pass the torch, is incapable of such.

Disagree. The voters he needs to win over aren’t going to vote for him just because someone took a shot at him. He’s still the same guy he was before tonight. The proof? Look closely at his behavior only moments after the incident — a narcissist to the core, further endangered his SS detail by staying on the stage as they were trying to move him and not immediately getting into his vehicle all bc he had to fist bump his followers multiple times and tell them to “fight.”

Which may also be indicative of him knowing he had nothing to fear (set up by him).

My god- he won because of what? This man encourages, incites, plans and advocates violence - gas since the 70s- and NOTHING has changed- he is a fascist - will destroy us all - NOTHING has changed- of course- corporate media will run this crap - vs - wall to wall coverage of the DAILY SHOOTINGS- and will they ask him- like he said to the Idaho mass assassinations- JUST GET OVER IT ??

Expand full comment

OK, well said, but who in fact "normalized" political violence? The Left? What Left would that be, the one that attempts, sometimes feebly, to enact some basic, commonsense firearm laws? I'm glad you mentioned the attack on Paul Pelosi, which became a laugh line for Trump and many in the GOP. Do they think what happened today is funny? I assume they will blame it on Biden, the CIA, probably compare Trump with JFK in the weeks to come; the image of Trump with his fist in the air will become a fund-raising meme. If this incident, which we know very little about at this moment, clinches the election for Donald Trump, this country is in even worse shape than I have imagined and feared.

It was "noteworthy" to hear so many R's condemn "political violence" when they have done pretty much everything possible to incite it and immunize those (aligned with them) who have perpetrated it.

Given his “injury” I would not be surprised if he arranged the shooting. You know there are MAGA dumb enough to fulfill his request even if it would mean prison and also believe they could get away with it. So shooter is deceased but didn’t hear if by LE or self.

Expand full comment

Yeah. That didn't look right.

Two scratches? Are those supposed to be bullet wounds? He grabbed his face before he ducked behind the podium, so that certainly implies that that is the story they're serving up.

But how tf could a legitimate assassination attempt result in THAT?

He supposedly:

• gets hit twice, but somehow both bullets just graze him,

• at the same depth,

• on the side of his face that the cameras conveniently can't see,

• because he's staring stage right for a weirdly prolonged amount of time,

• directly at where the shots would've had to come from,

• directly where most of his SS came from.

That's a lot for any rational mind to try to accept.

So obviously his supporters will not only accept it, but treat him as if he is Jesus, resurrected.

Expand full comment

I found it particularly odd that his supporters sitting right behind him didn't fully duck after the shots and after his security detail had him covered and close to the ground. They were sitting ducks for anyone shooting. Not likely they'd all be in on it, were it a ploy, but just seemed very unnatural.

There's also a video on twitter of this guy talking to a BBC reporter saying they had spotted this guy sneaking up the roof with the rifle and had told the cops who didn't do much. He said they were waving and gesturing to the security detail and pointing at the guy (who may not have been in full view from the stage side), but no one took action until after the shooting ... it was a couple or so minutes of time, but strange that the cops wouldn't have alerted the security detail for Trump to be moved in those couple of minutes.

One bystander died and two are im critical condition. What about being in shock? Come on... Stop that nonsense, you guys sound like Q Anon people. The shooter was a 20 year old Ding Dong. Do yiu think they would risk Trump getting shot from a 20 year old with an AR ironsight from 150m distance? I beg you, don't be that person..

Expand full comment

The blood etc are not inconsistent with a grazing wound at the top of his ear. What you’re referring to as scratches could be blood splatter from that wound when how head is turned (blood running). It will be interesting to see the transparency of the investigation though. It easily could have been staged as well. See if background info on ‘the shooter’ finds he’s a supporter of TFGCF (the former guy current felon) then I think we might have our answer.

Expand full comment

What I was looking at, is the fact that in the picture (the one with the sky in the background... 2nd & 3rd down the page), it looks like there are two basically parallel, horizontal graze marks (above & below his mouth). That just looks weird.

That being said, if he was bleeding from behind the ear (or squirting fake blood behind his ear), while looking down, then that could have formed drip marks on both sides of his ear that way.

Still. That doesn't explain why it all looks so staged. Or why he's staring stage-right for so incredibly long, seemingly waiting for his cue, instead of talking to the audience in front of him.

Either way, we're unlikely to get straight answers to any of it, so we may as well just guess.
