I fear that too many “journalists” will pick their current paycheck over a future gulag. They are exceptionally shortsighted.

Men like Kahn are blinded by the frame they have ALWAYS ascribed to.

It is truly disheartening to see this nation fall for a guy like Trump.

Both siding a story has been the down fall of journalism in large part.

And not just in America. I think the initial hit though was loss of income with the proliferation of free sites for news on the web. Then takeovers by right wing investors/venture capitalists to gut newsrooms or direct the message. I think the the both siding a story is more a symptom of all of that than the cause of its fall. Whatever the cause of the fall of journalism it is definitely a major problem for democracy around the world.

The NYT always seemed partisan and like an arm of the Democratic Party. They are giving Biden lots of cover on Gaza. Harwood is right, however, they are not focused enough on the treat that Trump represents. They focus on issues, which aren't nearly as important, often echoing GOP talking points about Biden being old etc.. Their audience is going to vote for Biden no matter. They seem more and more irrelevant.

There are a lot of conservatives who don't love Trump and the left that need convincing. Shilling for Biden won't convince them. You can call him on his flaws, but also cut through some of the BS. Yes, people's economic concerns are real, but our economy is great shape compared to many. Biden has not tanked it. The real story, is what Trump will do. Our system of govt, already gives an edge to GOP and rural states. This makes change hard. Last Trump presidency, they took over the Supreme Courts and did great damage. Another will, will game the system even more and we will have not redress.

It's important to the tell the story, in a straight forward way, about what another Trump presidency could be like. One can hate the choices we have, but we are stuck with them. Both siding pseudo neutrality is just weak journalism. Things aren't equal. You don't have to act like they are. You don't have to pretend you are neutral, as nobody believes it anyway.

For years journalists have covered American elections as “horse races.” Who is winning takes first place over who is really addressing the country’s problems. The Republicans have taken this model and run with it. They will do whatever they think they have to do to win. They include lying, cheating and stealing as important tools to prevent themselves from ever being thought of as “losers.” The latter is a term of abject disgrace for Republicans. This is so much so that they prefer not to admit ever losing an election, even when they have.

It’s not easy to look at the police manhandling, beating and violently peaceful student protesters nationwide and feel like we are currently living in a democracy. If being anti-fascist is Biden’s big campaign promise he’s really lost the plot.

I wasn't aware Biden or the Federal government had anything to do with "the police manhandling, beating and violently(sic) peaceful student protesters nationwide". In fact, I believe Biden's quote was,

"The first is the right to free speech and for people to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard. The second is the rule of law. Both must be upheld".

Keep in mind that a lot, most likely the majority of the police you are describing are Trump supporters, the true fascist wannabe.

There are ONLY 2 real choices in November. Choose wisely. The future of this democracy depends on making the right one.
