What goes around comes around. It is delusional to expect that a country can go around the globe supporting authoritarianism, apartheid, genocide all over the globe, declaring illegal wars abroad based on lies, indiscriminately kill hundreds of thousands if not millions (mostly civilians), flagrantly violate its own 'laws' around torture, human rights etc. and expect that none of these tendencies will eventually seep into the domestic realm. Of course Democrats will never take responsibility for their part in this bringing about this debacle (most recently by facilitating the Gaza genocide while brutally suppressing any opposition to it), which only undermines their credibility to speak about "protecting democracy"

By no means is this unprecedented. Naomi Klein delivered an excellent lecture a few months ago where she connected the dots from what Europeans did in their colonies to what eventually ended coming onto the continent by the 1920s and 1930s. For anyone who's interested, here's the link: https://youtu.be/qCd75DFs5J4?si=BaJRpB5b_VAHzYIv.

Rahul thanks for posting. Naomi K. breaks it down very well here. I agree that a vote for Harris is a vote for the lesser evil. It's a horribly bitter pill to swallow. Thanks for posting again. I love some of her quotes ok famous folks such as w e.debois. The present situation is a doppelganger if I ever saw one🙏🏾

I don't frame it as the "lesser of two evils." Either vote is for the US to continue its unconditional support for the Zionist project of establishing an exclusivist ethno-state between river and the sea (thus far, the mainstream strand has interpreted this as the Jordan and the Mediterranean, although some believe that the 'promised land' actually extends from the Red Sea to the Euphrates) no matter what it entails. Both parties endorse this genocide unequivocally (following on their illustrious track record of backing ethnic cleansing, blockade, occupation and apartheid for decades). "Lesser evil" in this case simply means to articulating America's unconditional support for this genocide more ambiguously, i.e. "we will always ensure that Israel can defend itself" rather than saying it more brazenly as the GOP does when it calls for Israel to "finish the job."

At the end of the day, people should vote how they want to. But I'll end off with saying that personally, I have deep respect and admiration for the moral fortitude of anyone who is steadfast in not voting for either genocide candidate.

I also agree with your comments. I just see the picture a little bigger than one evil situation. I believe Trump can do more harm domestically and in foreign relations the world over, and thus the meaning of " the lesser of the two evils".

This "one evil situation" is very much connected to other domestic and foreign policy matters. Within the US, it relates to gross foreign interference in domestic politics by AIPAC and the likes. The corrupting influence of money which results in billions of dollars in tax dollars spent propping up a genocidal apartheid state. Foreign policy wise, it severely undermines (and diminishes) America's soft power, credibility and reputation throughout the world. There are many examples I could cite to demonstrate this but I won't beleaguer the point.

The uniparty has an equal hand in getting us to where we are today, where the decades old corrupt policy of 'unconditional support' has reached its inevitable result - genocide. And Kamala Harris is just as beholden to this as Joe Biden was, as Donald Trump was (and will be if he wins), as Barack Obama was, as George Bush was, as Bill Clinton was. It's quite strange, virtually every president that followed Jimmy Carter maintained his policy (i.e. two-state solution) on paper. Only Carter actually believed in it and had the foresight to recognise that brutal military occupation to maintain a regime of apartheid cannot be sustained into perpetuity.

Those who argue that voting for the Harris-Walz ticket is absolutely crucial, even though the Democratic nominee is the second in command of an administration that's committing genocide, cannot give her a free pass by retorting with what is at its core a hypothetical claim at this point - that Trump would do worse. Rather, the onus is upon them to convince voters who at present are planning to go with a third party or sit this one out that they have a concrete and viable strategy to apply sustained pressure on a Harris-Walz administration to persuade them to break this cycle of 'unconditional support' for occupation, apartheid and genocide. Or else they should just own up to it and admit that the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians matters is just not that important - which makes them no different than Donald Trump and JD Vance - hence the term 'uniparty'

I agree with most everything you say here. Except that unfortunately I must vote for the lesser of the two evils, because it is clear to me that Trump is far worst then the other person, who by the way clearly is not right on foreign policy and I am grossly disgusted by the way it is being played out. It's not right on any level. Trump will be far worse in my opinion.

I agree with your comments. America is deluding itself if it thinks, with a Trump re-run, that it will escape what it has inflicted on other nations.

I watched the documentary you mention. Naomi discusses how Germany trialled genocide in their African colonies early in the 20th century and then carried out in Europe.

Exactly! The genocide of the Hererro and the Na'ma peoples in what's today Namibia formed part of the blueprint for the Nazi's extermination projects of Jews, the Roma, Slavs and various other so called 'undesirables'. But let's not lose sight of the fact that the remainder of that blueprint ties back to various European colonies/settler colonies. For example, Hitler admired how the Americans annihilated the indigenous population to create more 'living space' for the 'higher race' settler population.

No doubt the Holocaust was directly perpetrated by the Third Reich - they owned and operated the death camps (with some willing collaborators in Eastern Europe). But there are plenty of British, French, American, Dutch, Belgian fingerprints at this crime scene.

both Dems and Repubs are sending in the troops to stop the protests on our streets, bloggers we read getting house searched/electronics confiscated. Both partiesare preventing free speach and assaulting our civil liberties. Thiis is the new oligarch rule of order in America. You all liking it?

Vote Green or *forgetaboutit. Our republic is quickly turning into a fascist state, a police state.

What struck me about Trump's always dreadful grin (not practiced in an honest smile) and thumbs up at Arlington, was that he appeared to be applauding himself! It was a horrible "hey, I'm still here at 77 and going strong" gesture while standing in front of the graves of tens of thousands of people who died tragically young, who died before they could really enter their own lives, and were buried at Arlington. Ugh.

Highlighting that it was indeed a self-promotion event. No empathetic or decent human being would be smiling with thumbs up at a cemetery, especially for war veterans. Truly sick and self-absorbed. Again showing that he should not be commander in chief.

Excellent show, Medhi. Tough topics. I subscribed this week, and I’m glad I did. It’s been informative and important viewing. Mr Khan, is quite observant and considerate. He described it well when he said that Trump is void of responsibility and accountability. The whole show was very informative, and Rosa and Jason helped to illuminate the dangerous situation the country is in politically. It is incredible that despite an attempted coup, that some people think it won’t happen again. Ever since then the groundwork has/is being laid for a more successful one. The Palestinian christian guest also described it well, when he said that white evangelicals are only interested in Palestinian christian suffering when it’s a muslim inflicting it. Not when it’s a non-muslim (Israeli jews), hence white evangelicals aren’t protesting their suffering and deaths or speaking up about that (only the jewish ones). I still can’t get over how a convicted felon, who also encouraged an insurrection, plus all the other numerous things which speak to how dangerous he is, would have even 1% of the vote. You would not see that in any other western nation, not someone who is also a multiple convicted felon. Any other country, you’d be disqualified, and hardly anyone would vote for you.

Thanks Mehdi. You can't explain any clearer than you have here. We must uphold democracy and the only way to do that is to vote Democrat. It's a hard pill to swallow but that is the reality if we want to continue to try in make a difference for all oppression throughout the world. It's clear that Avenue will be shut down with Trump. If we think that Palestinians are suffering now, I shutter to think what he might do- he and his son and law Kushner. They gave us a glimpse in Jerusalem during his presidency.

I’m new to all this. Would someone please explain to me why Medhi was booted from MSNBC??? My all time favorite was and still is Rachel Madow. My second all time favorite was Medhi. He was a “ must watch “ like Rachel.

Rachel and Medhi are different in important ways. Medhi can speak the truth away from MSNBC in a way Rachel will never be able to (and evidently doesn't care to). Medhi was my favourite on MSNBC. He brought the reporting to where it should be for such a large network. I was a bit shocked and disappointed when he left, also as it indicated that MSNBC wasn’t as diverse or as good as I thought it was. Also, it was good to see US mainstream media having some more ballsy reporting about what’s happening. I still watch for Chris Hayes, Lawrence, and Ayman, as they’re pretty good, but otherwise disappointed by it.

So great that at last a Palestinian Christian gets to speak. It has taken a toll on them as well as the Muslims. Also I'm not surprised to hear this gentleman say that some American evangelicals believed that Palestinians were occupying Israel, and not the other way around - sounds par for the course.

One of the less obvious reasons that using a highly militarized police force to 'maintain law and order' during protests is such a bad idea, is that people just won't notice the progression to national guard at protests.....more of the same.

Mehdi, it would be good to hear you debate Jay Shapiro who thinks that the "lesser of two evils'" reason for voting Democrats does not hold water.
