Its war in Lebanon, and its continued bombing in Gaza – despite so-called “ceasefires” in place – did not stop Israel from conducting violent raids in the occupied West Bank and conducting “piracy” at sea.

Settler violence continued unabated, and the condition of a prominent journalist who had been held by Israel without trial or charge for a year was more proof of the torture and abuse Palestinians go through in Israeli prisons.

It was yet another troubling week in Palestine:

Saturday, April 25 – First Elections Held in Gaza Since 2006

Palestinians in central Gaza’s Deir Al-Balah voted in the first elections in two decades. It was mostly a symbolic vote meant to show that Gaza and the West Bank, where elections were also being held, cannot be separated politically, the Palestinian Authority said. Hamas did not formally field candidates, and turnout was low in Deir Al-Balah because, as Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary noted, people were “busy with surviving.”

Sunday, April 26 – Israel Kills 4 Across Gaza

Israeli forces killed at least four Palestinians across Gaza, including a 40-year-old woman who was shot and killed by Israeli troops, according to medical officials who spoke with Reuters.

The death toll in Gaza since the so-called ceasefire began more than six months ago has topped 820. Israel has killed more than 72,600 Palestinians since the genocide began.

Killing with impunity. Settler violence is out of control in the occupied West Bank, yet it’s extremely rare that settlers are held accountable. In fact, it’s often Palestinians who are detained during attacks, even though they were the ones terrorized by Israeli settlers.

Just this week, settlers beat an elderly woman, killed three Palestinians in separate attacks, including one on a school, and re-established an illegal settlement that was dismantled more than 20 years ago. And that’s just a small glimpse of Israeli violence against Palestinians this week. We documented more below, and we bring you the latest out of Gaza, where Israeli “ceasefire” violations continue on a daily basis.

Israeli settlers raided multiple villages, damaging Palestinian homes and beating residents, including an elderly woman in a village outside Hebron, according to Palestinian media.

As the woman, Umm Hussein Jabarin, was taken to a health facility for treatment, Israeli forces reportedly detained three of her sons.

It was another deadly and violent week in Palestine. Israeli forces killed many, including children, across Gaza, Israeli settlers blocked Palestinian children from going to school and torched Palestinian cars, and the Israeli soldiers suspected of raping a Palestinian detainee could soon return to reserve service.

There was some promising news, however: While the US Senate rejected measures to block arms and bulldozer sales to Israel, a record number of Senate Democrats voted for the legislation, reflecting increasing frustration with Israel’s actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and across the region.

Saturday, April 11 – Hundreds Arrested at Palestine Action Protest in the UK

Police arrested more than 500 people, including elderly protesters and demonstrators with disabilities, in London at the first protest supporting Palestine Action since the UK’s High Court ruled that the group’s ban was unlawful in February.

After the High Court’s ruling, police initially had said they would stop arresting protesters at the Palestine Action demonstrations, but that changed after the UK government was approved to appeal the court’s decision against the ban designating the group as a terrorist organization.

Sunday, April 12 – New Gaza-Bound Flotilla Sets Sail

Activists, humanitarians, and hundreds of others officially launched a new flotilla aimed at breaking Israel’s siege of Gaza. The flotilla, which is ultimately expected to include more than 100 boats and over 1,000 participants, is the latest attempt to make it to Gaza during the genocide. Previous fleets were violently intercepted by Israel in international waters.

Israel’s war on Iran with the US, and renewed escalation in Lebanon, including boasting about launching 100 strikes in 10 minutes, has not stopped it from continuing its genocide in Gaza and furthering its de facto annexation of the West Bank.

Just this week, Israeli forces killed another journalist in Gaza, Israeli soldiers beat an elderly woman to death, and the Israeli government secretly approved dozens of new settlements for the occupied West Bank.

Something Israel’s actions elsewhere in the region have done is divert attention away from what it’s doing in Palestine. That’s exactly why we started ‘This Week in Palestine’ – to ensure we didn’t look away.

Saturday, March 28 – Another Palestinian Dies in Israeli custody

Marwan Herzallah, a 54-year-old man from Nablus, died in Israeli custody. He’s one of more than 100 Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli prisons or detention camps since Oct. 7 (89 have been identified), according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society.

Herzallah had been in detention since early January on “incitement” charges. He had lost a leg in 1995 after being shot by Israeli forces.

Sunday, March 29 – Israel Blocks Jerusalem Cardinal From Holy Site on Palm Sunday

Israel blocked the top Roman Catholic official in Jerusalem from marking Palm Sunday in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Christianity’s holiest site, and where many believe Jesus was crucified and resurrected. After outcry, including by the Trump administration, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reversed the decision for the rest of Holy Week.

Israel has closed Holy sites in Jerusalem’s Old City since the beginning of the war on Iran. Notably, the US did not express outrage over the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to Muslim worshippers on Eid.

Israeli forces allegedly tortured a 1-year-old boy in Gaza to coerce a confession from his father – and the story barely got any media coverage at all.

A leading UN expert said Israel is systematically torturing Palestinians. Most Western media didn’t seem to care.

These are just two stories from this week in Palestine – a week defined by torture – that likely wouldn’t have gotten much Western media attention even if the US wasn’t pursuing an illegal war, ICE wasn’t in US airports, and Donald Trump wasn’t spewing out his latest lies. But they’re stories, like the rest below, we at Zeteo didn’t miss, and are exactly why we launched this project a few weeks ago.

Sunday, March 22 – Israel ‘Tortured’ 1-Year-Old Boy to Get Confession From Father, Family Says

Palestine journalist Osama Khalout reported that the family of 21-month-old Jawad Abu Nassar said they believe the toddler was tortured by Israeli forces to coerce a confession out of his father.

Israeli forces took the child after arresting his father, Osama, near the so-called yellow line near Gaza’s Maghazi refugee camp earlier this month. When Israel returned Jawad 10 hours later (a return Israeli forces filmed), his family noticed his pants were bloody, and he had marks on his legs.

“I observed multiple deep uniform lesions on his lower body, which are clinically consistent with deliberate cigarette burns used as a form of physical torture,” Dr. Bisan Ahmed, who conducted the examination of Jawad, told Sky News.

Israel denied the claims, suggesting to Sky News that the child may have suffered light injuries in the gunfire they claimed was directed towards the father and son in an attempt to get them to turn around. They also claimed Osama confessed to being a member of Hamas, and ridiculously said he was using his son as a “human shield.”

Osama remains in Israeli custody.

As the US-Israeli war rages in Iran and Israel escalates its bombardment of Lebanon, Israel’s genocide in Palestine continues.

Just this week, Israeli forces shot dead four members of one family whose only crime was being Palestinian while driving home at night after dinner in the occupied West Bank. Israel also killed more than a dozen Palestinians across Gaza; we learned just how dangerous the US-Israeli war on Iran can be for Palestinians in the West Bank; and Israeli settlers carried out a night of violence, setting fires to cars and homes and beating Palestinians.

The Iran war, high oil prices, and Donald Trump’s idiocy have turned away what little attention there was on the ongoing genocide in Palestine, but as we promised, Zeteo will not become distracted. Saturday, March 14 – Israeli Forces Kill 4 Members of Palestinian Family

Israeli forces shot dead Ali Bani Odeh, his wife, Waad, their blind 6-year-old son, Othman, and their youngest son, Muhammad, in their car as they returned home from dinner in the occupied West Bank late Saturday night. The couple’s two eldest sons, Khaled, 11, and Mustafa, 8, survived the attack, with Khaled telling reporters: “My mother let out a cry and then she went silent and I did not hear my brothers.” He added that Israeli soldiers beat him and his brother and said, “We killed dogs” when they reached the car.

As it often does, Israel attempted to paint the family as a threat to justify the shooting, but its comments were quickly dispelled by the accounts of the two surviving brothers and other witnesses.

Saturday, March 7 – Settler Kills 28-Year-Old Palestinian

An Israeli settler shot dead ‌28-year-old Palestinian Amir Muhammad Shanaran in Masafer Yatta, an area near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, where settlers routinely harass and violently threaten villagers. Shanaran’s killing came after settlers killed two Palestinian brothers in the West Bank village of Qaryut the previous week.
