“[Investigators] didn’t have access to forensic evidence. They didn’t speak to any survivors of that day,” she says. “I have tried my best to speak also to either survivors of October 7 or family members… Israel does not cooperate with independent investigations.”

However, Alsalem says the pervasiveness of the ‘mass rape’ question is having a detrimental effect for Gaza. “It’s being used over and over again in order to justify the genocide against Palestinians.”

Kordia, who was freed last month, joins Mehdi to highlight just how bad the conditions were inside the detention center she was kept in - one of many that have sprung up all over the country since Trump took office. “I actually stayed sleeping on the floor for three months straight,” Kordia tells Mehdi, adding that she saw women who were seven and eight months pregnant in her ‘dorm’. “I thought that I knew about these things… but the reality was absolutely shocking.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it detained Kordia for overstaying an expired F-1 student visa, but also cited her role in Columbia University’s 2024 pro-Palestine protests, which likely made her a target for ICE. But despite her detention, Kordia says she wouldn’t have done anything differently. “I don’t regret doing it, and I will still call for the end of the genocide… I will still call for a Palestine to be free from the river to the sea.”

One of the people on his list of targets is none other than LaMonica McIver, the New Jersey Democratic Congresswoman who has been charged by the Department of Justice for allegedly “assaulting, impeding, and interfering with law enforcement” during a routine oversight visit to an ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey last May, that devolved into all-out chaos.

“They tried to stop us from going in to have oversight,” McIver tells Mehdi.

She was never arrested on the day of the oversight visit, and is now the only lawmaker facing charges – which could land her up to 17 years in prison. “If they [the Trump administration] can do what they can to me and other members of Congress that we’ve seen happen, imagine what they’re doing in the dark,” she says of the Trump administration.

Nevertheless, Rep. McIver continues to speak out against ICE’s lawlessness: “I think a lot of people have to be prosecuted and held accountable, including Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi... I think they’ve committed crimes and I think that they have to be held responsible for those.”

Since striking Iran in late February, Donald Trump and top administration officials haven’t been able to get their stories straight about the rationale that drove them to war.

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee, tells Mehdi, “They’ve had these constantly shifting rationales, and the reason they have to keep shifting them is because when they say that one thing was their goal – like getting rid of Iran’s nuclear capacity, they claimed – that turns out to be just not true.”

What is true, though, is that Trump played right into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hands when he decided to strike Iran. “Netanyahu just a few weeks ago said he’d been waiting 40 years for an American president to join him in attacking Iran. And in Donald Trump, he finally found somebody stupid enough and reckless enough to actually do it,” Van Hollen explains.

While Van Hollen, who is widely considered a possible 2028 presidential candidate, slams Trump for acquiescing to Netanyahu and Israel, he doesn’t spare Joe Biden either:

“The Biden administration did nothing to hold the Netanyahu government to account, and now the Trump administration is not only doing nothing to hold them to account, but essentially just giving them a blank check to do whatever they want in Lebanon or in Iran.”
